    1. [TNROANE] 1840 Meigs Co. Census Lookup
    2. Hello to the list, Could anyone do a census lookup on the 1840 Meigs Co. TN Heads of Household census? I've been able to pull up the census on the web but it doesn't have any age codes, which I sorely need. I need to find the codes on three people: Thomas CASH pg. 4 and Mary CASH and Stephen FORD listed side by side on pg. 23 I believe Mary may have been the mother of my 2nd great grandfather James Monroe Cash aka "Monroe" b. 1826 TN. Monroe is listed on 1850 Cedar Co. MO census next to the family of Stephen Ford....mixed in w/ a few more families from Meigs Co. TN. Monroe's wife was Sarah E. FORD aka "Sallie" b. 1827 TN. The Roane Co. Cash family (s/o Reuben on 1840 Roane Co. TN census joins up w/ this group also) I would sincerely appreciate any help that I could get in trying to find out if my Monroe and Sarah(Sallie) were in the households of Mary Cash and Stephen Ford on the 1840 Meigs Co. HOH Census. - Chris

    3. Hi Chris, Following the URL to the Roane County website I was looking for: http://www.roanetnheritage.com/ There are schools listings for the 1870's and I found my Woolsey's and neighbors their neighbors. Check the page out and then let me know if you find any connections. 3. Sorry you aren't up to par - but pray you will be perky in no time. Have a wonderful Easter. Your note sounds hopeful.... I have nothing at all on her. And it appears she must have died when my grandfather was very young. The only census I have indicates his second wife (Mary Elizabeth Selser), only 18 years old and shows grandad's age as 1 year. I can't keep from wondering if she died in child birth????? Any information would be most appreciative and I will continue my search also. 1. [TNROANE] A little help from my friends?
    2. Carolyn Wilkerson
    3. Good morning list memebers, Some weeks back I lost much of my research information. Included in the information were Roane County and neighboring county websites. My Roane County Woolsey family originally settled at Ten Mile in 1833. I then understand Ten Mile (or where this family lived) became part of Meigs County (what in 1883?). One particular website that was shared had the division of the land (seems there were several different counties involved), also had schools and listing of students, cemeteries, etc. Would appreciate anyone who would like to once again share any websites that may be of help. Also am looking for information Byrd (Bird ?) Deatherage who purchased this particular property at Ten Mile and sold it to Fethias Woolsey in 1833. Interested in informaton concerning John and Mary Morrison who were the neighbors of Fethias and Margaret Peoples Woolsey. 2. Hi Carolyn, I don't know much about the part of Roane being made a part of Meigs Co in 1880's....but I do know that the area of Ten Mile(or parts of it) was all Rhea Co. TN until 1836, when it divided into Rhea/Meigs........Meigs to the right of the TN River and Rhea to the left...... As we talked about before, my Cash family also in the Ten Mile area of Rhea then Meigs Co. They appear to go back before 1830 and associated families are Rowden, Gibson, Refrow and Ford. ... I'm sure there's someone out there who is much more knowledgable than me on these county designations and dates.....wish I could help more.....good luck, Chris

    3. Norma, I am going to go WAY, WAY, WAY out on the edge of a small limb here......Most of my mothers family and related collateral lines moved from Roane County, TN to SWMO in the early to mid 1800's. Specifically Polk County, MO. In the past week I discussed with a woman on the list about a MITCHELL/KIRK union. This MITCHELL family line came from eastern TN, including Roane County and moved into Polk County as well.........so, even though I don't have an answer for you directly....if you cannot find this person specifically, you might backtrack to Polk County, MO. See if the KIRK's there are related to KIRK's in Roane County, TN. Just a thought is all... 3. >Sue, do you have any information on this Brannon? I have some Brannons in my >Roane County files. Richard, That particular Brannan stayed in Johnston Co, NC, his entire life. However, one of my Johnston Co Brannans moved to Tennessee in the late 1700's. He was awarded some bounty land for serving in the Revolutionary War. The land was at first a part of NC, but by the time he got it, it had become part of Tennessee. It was in Washington Co. Was Roane Co made from part of Washington Co? I'm afraid I don't know much about TN. His name was Thomas Brannan, Jr., and the only reference to his wife that I've found, in a deed, had her name as Sukey. Sounds like a nickname. He was never on a census in Johnston Co, so I don't know how many kids he might have had when he moved to TN. I'm sure that Thomas must have some descendants somewhere, but so far I have been unable to connect with any. He died in Bledsoe Co, TN, after being granted a pension for his war service. Thomas had siblings named James, Anne, Sarah, William, Caron, and Tabitha. His mother's name was Catherine. Do any of these names appear among your Brannons? They tended to use some of them over and over. What are the names of your Brannons? I would love to make a connection. Sue Brannan Plaster
