Hello to the list, I am looking for any additional information on the 5th TN Cav., Co. B...which I am told was based out of Roane Co. TN. Also, Welcker's TN Cav. Bn, which was also based out of Roane. Both were Confederate units and I am looking to connect w/ anyone who has knowledge of information/pictures that deal with this unit. I have excerpts from "Tennesseans in the Civil War" which gives rough details of these units, but doesn't go into a whole lot of detail. I have also found one picture posted on the web for a trooper in the 5th TN Cav., Co. B(a Private Edgemond). I have this web address for anyone who is interested. I would love to share info with anyone w/ additional info. Thank You, Christopher D. Cash
Mike Here is the LDS site on the internet. It is free and has been a great help to me. Norma Leffew Farrell

Sheila was refering to ancestry.com, you cannot access all of their info until you become a member. I hope this helps. I live in Charlottesville, VA, in Albemarle CO. Although I have lived here many years, I have never gotten into the unpublished court records which I studied this week in my search to link my E TN Watkins/Moore/hart/Duncan lines to Charlottesville. There is record of a personal physician to Thomas Jefferson in Jefferson CO, TN, records in early days which I just found duplicated in Albemarle CO records and which also links this line back to Maryland via a Bell marriage. At any rate, I think that many of you may want to look at this area for your E TN kin. The woman who has been with the courthouse records the longest and who knows the most commented that she thinks that one of the strongest migration patterns that she's seen out of here is toward E TN and that she often overhears conversations about researhers of TN who have "finally found their records" here. I certainly found mine! Unfortunately, most of these old records are still unpublished, although there are several groups here working to change that situation. The person studying Tinnell lines may want to see what a researcher on the Albemarle CO list sent: Descendants of Joseph Tinnell 1 Joseph Tinnell b: 1742 Stafford Co, VA;(albemarle Co, vA) . 2 Joseph Tinnell ..... +Mary Pace m: 1794 . 2 John Tinnell ..... +Elizabeth/Betsy Meeks m: 1796 Doris in VA
I understand that the original is available in microfilm format at LDS Libraries. However, I do not know any order codes. -----Original Message----- From: Firewalker [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2000 5:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [TNROANE] Re: [TNROANE-L] marriages I was wondering if by chance anyone might know where one might be able to look at this database/reference mentioned in this post? So I decided to go looking for both you and me to see what I could find. I looked on Ancestry. Com (I am a member) and found the following info: Francis L. Tinnell married Elizabeth J. Headrick 03 October 1878 in Roane County, TN The database this was extracted from is entitled: Dodd, Jordan R. Early American Marriages: Tennessee, 1851 to 1900. Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc., 1999-2000. Hope this helps. Obviously this isn't my Elizabeth........I hope. I already have her married twice! Kay, I am interested in your HARVEY information. One of my ancestors, Nancy Thompson married ? Harvey around 1850 - not sure of Tennessee location - possibly Roane Co. In the 1860 census, Nancy Thompson Harvey and her three children were living with her parents in Johnson Co., Arkansas. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Donna Williams

Rockwood is in Roane County. Started as an iron ore and coal town by General Rockwood following the Civil War. It lies next to Walden's Ridge and joins Cumberland County at the top of the Cumberland Plateau.
Hi! Any KIRBY, TAYLOR, WHALEN, CLIFFORD, HURTT OR READERS? Thanks!! Pam
Interested in Jerusha Leffew and 3 children listed in her household (roane county) census after Sterling Leffew had died - they cannot be his children, but are listed as her sons - Robert, Joseph and will have to look up the other name. Joseph is who I am most interested in.
In the "Call Me Hillbilly" book, do you have any GAMMON, HAYNIE, or WARD names? Thanks. Judy
