    3. This good news from the DAR in Roane County: Pat McDonald =============== The DAR and City of Kingston is restoring the ancient Bethel Cemetery. We have a company from McMinnville restoring the broken markers and "setting up" the unlevel markers. The City is furnishing prison labor to clean all the brush and overgrowth so it can be seen from the road. The markers will be cleaned when finished and the DAR is going to identify the markers plus researching records of those buried there and have not markers. When finished we are going to make a self-guided tour and map. Would you put this info on your web pages to your friends, asking those that have relatives/friends buried to come forward pass the info on to us/you. Also, they can contribute money - if so desired.

    3. Hi Audrae, I was just wondering about you the other day. I was setting at the comp as matter of fact. We can never thank you enough for donating it to us. Census records are very popular. How many do you have transcribed? I can put them up as long as they aren't already on the roanetnheritage page. In that case I could drop a link to them. Whatcha think? 3. I cannot respond about the James Preston Bible, but am very interested in hearing about your family. My grandfather of Loudon, TN, was James PRESTON Watkins and I've often wondered why that name was chosen. His parents were Nancy Brown HARt, dau. of George B. HART b 1816 TN and wife Ellen Ekens/Adkins/Ekins, and Wm. Douglas Watkins b 1843 TN, son of Wm. Watkins b 1805 TN and wife Margaret Byerley, dau. of Jasper Byerley/Bierley, Jr, of SC and wife Mary Moore b ca 1767. Do any of these surnames connect with your James Preston line? Doris in VA

    3. List, I have learned that on Jesse Preston Sr.'s estate inventory on 7 Nov 1836 in Roane Co., TN there was listed among his items 3 spelling books, 1 Bible and a Dictionary. Jesse is my direct line. January term 1837. Jesse's wife Nancy bought the spelling books and the Bible for 75 cents. Their son George bought the Dictionary for 25 cents. Would someone know who has this Bible? In 1860 she was living with son Jesse but by 1870 she was head of household in Roane Co., P.O. Loudon. Would appreciate help in locating this Bible. Thanks Wanda

    3. We buried the last of my maternal line in late Apr. The pastor that did the service had an inspiring poem that I would like to pass on for your perusal. Standing over a tombstone, looking down at the birthdate and the dash, with the last date yet to be inscribed, it was very powerful. Pat How You Live Your Dash I read of a man who stood to speak At a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning...... to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash "between" those years. For that dash represents all the time That she spent alive on earth.... And now only those who loved her Know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; The cars...the house... the cash, What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard.... Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left That can still be arranged. If we could just slow down enough To concider what's true and real, And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, And show appreciation more And love people in our lives Like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, And more often wear a smile.... Remembering that this little dash Might only last a little while. So. when your eulogy's being read With your life's actions to rehash.... Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent your dash?
