Tim, I've worked on the Reese Family a little bit. Is this your Joseph and Sally? This is a very complicated mess. I got a lot of it from Census material, marriage records, and Cemetery Records from Rhea County. There was a lot of multiple marriages and kids living with stepparents and such here. Let me know if you see anything that looks familiar. Were the three kids Eliza J. Reese 16, James 13, and Lucinda C. 3: living by themselves in the 1860 Census because papa died? In 1840 there is Joseph Reese and his wife and four girls. Must be the ones that show up in 1850. I didn't have them listed before I started working on this response. I see they are Nancy, Lyda, Polly and Rebecca. Isham wasn't born until 1841 so didn't show up yet. The Census would seem to give the age of Joseph as being between thirty and forty years old in 1840 so birthdate would be 1800 to 1810. His wife lists herself as being between the ages of twenty and thirty or 1810 to 1820. She does give her age as 42 in the 1850 census though so she probably was just guessing. I see in the marriage records that a fellow by the name of Isham Reese got a license to marry a gal by the name of Mahala Thompson, Dec. 15, 1830 and then on Dec 16 solomized the same, by the blessings of the Honorable James Swan, Justice of the Peach of Rhea County, Tennessee, with Bondsman Isaac H. Eddington providing the Security for the marriage. Now this is a curious thing. A Fellow by the name of Joseph married to a gal named Sally has their first boy in 1841 and name him Isham. They had their first child in the year 1834. Now I don't see any mention of an Isham in the 1840 census in Rhea County but I do see a Joseph. Makes you wonder a bit eh? Joseph Isham Reese and Mahala Sally Thompson???????? Also: Isham Reece was a bondsman for a fellar named William Thompson, when he marreid a gal named Cynthia Cooper on May 9, 1833. Probably related to old Mahala eh? Also Malinda H. Thompson married Isaac Eddington March 12, 1839, with Squire L. Thompson posting bond. William Thompson was also bondsman for Squire Thompson when he married Serena Davis on Dec 12, 1831. So it seems we have Reese, Eddington, and Thompson tied together here. I don't know how closely yet. Just looking a one book on the crew. I just looked up Mahalia in the Black Rhea Co. Book and it gives her parents as Moses F. and Mary Martin Thompson. she was teh first known child of that marriage. The person who wrote the article in the book also lost track of the family in the 1850 census. 1880 Census Reuben Lemons and Mary Jane Reese have a couple of Nephews living with them. Samuel Thompson 21 and his brother James Thompson 19. Born 1859 and 1861. Don't know who Mary Jane's parents were though.
