    3. Hi, So many of the mailing lists that I subscribe to have been mentioning this, I didn't know which one to send it to. So I am sending it to almost all of them. I am sure you have heard that Cornell university has put the correspondence concerning the War of Rebellion on Line: http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/MOA/MOA-JOURNALS2/WARO.html Having this huge chunk of data on line without an index has been driving me crazy. It is like having a piece chocolate caged up in front of me. I have been trying to figure out the index system all day. Finally, I think I have it figured out. It still takes a great deal of time to find the information. It appears to me that each volume is indexed at the back of the books. So when you see a volume listed on the opening page it lists the number of pages. When you open that volume you type in the last number and click go (or what ever button it has there) you will end up on the last page of the index for that volume. Do not go by the pages listed on the first page of the volume because they are the page numbers that appeared in the original book, not the pages that the computer is counting. Then you have to estimate which page that your surname would be on and go to those pages based on the size of the index. (Or you can keep clicking previous page). The tricky part is t! hat the page number (that is typed on the original book) and the number that you type into the box are different because the computer is counting the unnumbered pages (title page, introduction, etc). You have to keep this in mind when going to the pages listed in the index. Most of the volumes that I looked at are about 15 pages off. I have not checked out all of Series 4 and am starting on Series 3, only looking for one of my surnames. This is going to be a long process. Good luck to you all. It might actually be easier to find the printed index at a library near you. Annabel Ballew http://www.mscomm.com/~ballew/home.htm
