Finally found the letter written by my grandfather, Raleigh Micajah Clack, while he was attending school in Evensville (between Dayton and Spring City). March 26, 1898, he wrote to his sister, Bettie: ".......Well this is a time for everything to be done in a hurry and anything that can't keep up with electricity "isn't in it". A person can go to Dayton now and talk with people in almost any of the neighbouring towns such as; Chattanooga, Athens, Decatur, Charleston and many other places on the long range "phone". They intend to extend it to Kingston. They have commenced to dig the holes between here and Dayton. I guess they will have an office here before school is out........." Edna Clack
