I don't have any addresses at this time. What I gave you is about all I know. I had the Apr. 6 marriage date. I'm not sure what the Apr.2 date is. Do you know how to interpret the two dates? Is the earlier one the date of the marriage bonds? I do have quite a bit on the Roddys. A Roddy descendent has them on an internet site. Jesse's father was a James Roddy(e), b 1742 in NC, and his father was also James Roddye, b. 1710 in Ireland. If you are interested in any other information I may have, please let me know. I don't yet know the history of all the various counties in this area. I don't know the historical connection of Roane & Rhea Counties and the town of Rhea. If I figure that out I may get a better understanding of who was where when. If you have any other information on the Mahaffeys or Jesse Roddy's mother, who was Catherine Jane Chase, I'd be interested. Thanks again for your help. Marsha

Has list gotten quiet or have I been unsubscribed? Last digest received was # 29. Please "subscribe" if someone has deleted my e-mail address on accident. Kindest regards, Vivian
Larry, I saw an e-mail from you referencing a history of Rhea Co. I have an ancestor, Benjamin White, who was married in Rhea, TN in April, 1827, to Lucinda Roddy. His father was John White. Have you run across any information regarding this family in the history. Will gladly send address and pay for copies if there is any information. Thank you. Marsha
Larry, New to list. If you do lookups in the History of Rhea County TN, would really appreciate one of James Knox. He married there in 1817 and died there in 1859. Thanks. Hi Larry, I just want to take a moment to thank you for all the lookups you do on this list. I used to try to do them all myself, then I discovered that when I am really busy, if I put it aside, you will usually answer the querier. I love it! You save me much time which I can use to work on the Project and the county pages. If you like, I could list you on the Rhea page as a lookup volunteer or you could just continue to do what you do so well. Again many thanks for all the help you provide. Regina Roper, Here is what I have: First my line in Rhea County, TN (actually my wife's line) is very similar -McCabe- they have been mistaken for each other at times. I am hoping someone on list may be a desc of the McCaleb family who were in Rhea CO. This would be the Andrew McCaleb family. There is a McCaleb cemetery SE of Spring CIty with graves for ARchie McCaleb, Nancy J McCaleb, Andrew McCaleb, Anna McCaleb, and ELizabeth and Archibald McPherson. Andrew McCaleb was the son of Archibald McCaleb who died in Knox Co TN. There was another son named James N. (Believed to be James NEWTON) who settled in Roane Co TN. Andrew was also in Roane for awhile before going to Rhea. There was another brother, Samuel, who was also in the area. James Newton McCaleb married Susannah HOPE in Roane Co TN 10-20-1823 and it is said he finally removed to AR but no proof of this...howeverhis son James Haywood McCaleb did go to AR. I am hoping someone may have info on these McCalebs, to help prove the link between James Newton, Andrew, and James Haywood. Regina Roper
The Church Headquarters, in Salt Lake City, have finally made the first OFFICIAL announcement about the FamilySearch® Internet Genealogy Service. There has been much speculation & many erronious posts to various places on the Internet about this but now you can read the OFFICIAL announcement on the Church website. This announcement can be viewed at http://lds.org/en/4_News_Update/19990304_FIGS.html . To verify it is an offical LDS website announcement, choose any of the choices from the task bar shown & you can get back to the homepage. There is also a logo displayed with the Church name visible. Memos to Family History Center Directors were sent out about a month ago so we did not know "officially" about this until then either. Also, this does not specify what services will be available nor does the FHC memo. We will just have to wait & see. Bonnie F. fava@budsters.com
I have many family members from TN. The generation prior to the one I need to search, at this time, was from Sullivan Co. and it is believed that they were born in Nashville. So, I don't know what county to search? Please help, and if you're exceptionally kind you might be able to help me anyway. I am looking for SPURGEON, Frances Elizabeth b. 1817, TN. Must find her father and mother and her Grandfather and Mother as I have to prove my relationship to SPURGEON, Charles Haddon b. 1834 back in England, so thought if I went back 2 generations it would be easier to cross over, if you get my gist. SPURGEON, Frances Elizabeth married HILTON, James Andrew b.TN 23/03/1813. His folks were HILTON, Charles b.TN abt 1775, d. abt. 1839. His wife was YOAKLEY, Margaret. B TN 1779.

Debra, I don't find and child named Charles Smith in the Rhea County 1850 census. Could you give me any more info on him? Parents, brothers/sisters? I have a Smith book that has many Charles Smith's. Larry
Hello, does someone have the 1850 census for Rhea,Co??? If so I am trying to locate the family of Charles Smith. He would be 8 or 9 since he was b.1841. Thanks for the help. Debra
I have just posted a long list of deaths in and around Rhea County as recorded in the Diary of W.R. Clack from 1899-1914. Some of these don't show up in the Cemetery book of Rhea nor do they have stones. Some have had their stones mis-read and reported incorrectly. For instance, the very first one he entered is off by 7 years in the Rhea Cem book. This could be due to the WPA or just simply being misread. Anyway, hope you find someone there you've been looking for. http://members.aol.com/ednaclack/deaths.htm Edna Clack
