Thanks to both Edna and Nancy for their replies. I am having a very hard time documenting information published in a book, THE RUNYON GENEALOGY, which contains most of the information published and known about the John Masoner and Massie Runyn family. I have been unable to document any of the citations or rather comments the Runyon's have listed. Most of the Masoner researchers have accepted the Runyon information as fact but it just doesn't add up to what I have been able to find. Again thanks for your help. Does anyone on the list have access to deeds or land records? I am trying to verify some information. 1827 John Masoner is taxed for 160 acres, his son Isaac has 480 acres, and another son, Tavenor has 160 acres. 1828 and 1829 tax list shows John and Isaac with 560 acres. Tavenor is supposed to have sold his land to Isaac and went to GA. I need to find copies of the deeds or land records to verify this information. The 1830 Rhea Co. census shows John Masoner with 1 male 30-40 and 1 male 60-70; 1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40, 1 female 70-80 Some family researchers say that this is John Masoner, Jr. (no record found by me of a John, Jr.), with John, Sr. living with him. I disagree and believe that it is John Masoner, born 1760-1770, wife Massie (Runyon), living with them would be son, Tavenor with an unknown first wife and young daughter. I am searching for proof that Tavenor went to GA and was not in Rhea Co. in 1830. He is not listed on the 1830 GA census index. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. As we're all scratching around looking for contacts out of state who might help us with our research, just want to pass along an experience I've had with one of them.. There's a gentleman out there who will research anything within 200 miles of Fort Worth and do it with enthusiasm. I found him to be very reasonable, about half what the others charge, very thorough, dependable, and doesn't drag his feet getting it done. I know it's frustrating when the info needed isn't to be found on the internet and this is one of the ways I've used to get around that. I'm not a middleman for him but just wanted to pass along some good news and relate a refreshing experience when it comes to hiring work done out of state. His name is Mike Patterson and his email address is: marimike@flash.net Edna Clack

I keep forgetting to tell the researchers on this list of a great booklet that's out on James Hubbert and his descendants, Matthew being one of them. I'm not a descendant but read every word, totally enthralled. Ole James was truly a frontier character. It's 31 pages and was put together by Cherel Bolin Henderson of the ETHS. The last email address I have for her is rhyne@east-tennessee-history.org If that is no longer valid, just send to the ETHS, she's an officer. That's East TN Hist Soc Her snail mail address as published in this booklet in 1997 is P.O. Box 1629, Knoxville, TN 37901. Title "James Hubbert, Epic Frontiersman, The Tennessee Years" I have no idea if she sells them, I have no financial interest in it in any way, just wanted you to know of an extremely well put together source for the early Hubbert family. Does anyone have any information of Temperance Hall located in Meigs Co.? I have an undocumented citation that Temperance Hall was built by Isaac MASONER/MASNER in 1832. I would like to confirm this citation if possible. Thaks. Jean Masoner jmasoner@isc-durant.com Editor THE NEW MASONER MONITOR http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Brumfield

Need info on the Catherine Welch from the 1860 Rhea County census. I have tried to post this to the Welch list but for some reason, none of my postings get through at all. I am trying to find out who her husband was. Her son-in-law was William Myers, my third great-grandfather. Do the indexed deed records of Rhea County contain any info on the WELCH and MYERS families? William Myers was listed next door as a "shoe maker". They were in Roane County in 1842, when William married Catherine's daughter Nancy Mary Welch. Was there a George W. Myers or George W. Welch in Roane or Rhea Counties? William named his oldest child George W. Myers. Would greatly appreciate your help!

I say AMEN to Linda's request for using the subject line...with all the porno and gambling and rip-off mailings, I hesitate to open mail I don't recognize, and an obvious subject line makes it much easier...MJ
Will, I don't see a marriage for Catherine Welch in Rhea prior to 1900, neither do I find her in any census for Rhea. Edna
