Hi folks, There are some additions to the website, mostly overdue changes of e-mail addresses, new surnames and homepages. There is a new Surname poster that may keep me from getting so far behind, a new reunion notice and most importantly a notice for the descendants of Waterhouse, Brady, Broyles, Brown, Roddy, Holloway, Thompson, Sweeten, Tyson, Garrison, Smith, Locke Families. I hope to add some more lovely things tomorrow. Nancy

Hi, So many of the mailing lists that I subscribe to have been mentioning this, I didn't know which one to send it to. So I am sending it to almost all of them. I am sure you have heard that Cornell university has put the correspondence concerning the War of Rebellion on Line: http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/MOA/MOA-JOURNALS2/WARO.html Having this huge chunk of data on line without an index has been driving me crazy. It is like having a piece chocolate caged up in front of me. I have been trying to figure out the index system all day. Finally, I think I have it figured out. It still takes a great deal of time to find the information. It appears to me that each volume is indexed at the back of the books. So when you see a volume listed on the opening page it lists the number of pages. When you open that volume you type in the last number and click go (or what ever button it has there) you will end up on the last page of the index for that volume. Do not go by the pages listed on the first page of the volume because they are the page numbers that appeared in the original book, not the pages that the computer is counting. Then you have to estimate which page that your surname would be on and go to those pages based on the size of the index. (Or you can keep clicking previous page). The tricky part is t! hat the page number (that is typed on the original book) and the number that you type into the box are different because the computer is counting the unnumbered pages (title page, introduction, etc). You have to keep this in mind when going to the pages listed in the index. Most of the volumes that I looked at are about 15 pages off. I have not checked out all of Series 4 and am starting on Series 3, only looking for one of my surnames. This is going to be a long process. Good luck to you all. It might actually be easier to find the printed index at a library near you. Annabel Ballew http://www.mscomm.com/~ballew/home.htm

Does anyone have any connections to the Powell family in Rhea Co 1808-1832? I am searching for any connection of my James Powell(married to Mazdy Murphree) to a Nicholas Powell. James was the bondsman when Nicholas married Jane Robinson on Dec 8 1810. Nicholas had a brother, Green Powell, who married Peggy Hunter in 1815 in Rhea. They both appear to have been sons of a Nicholas Powell, sr. On the 1811 Jury list were an Archibald Powell and Nicholas Powell, sr. There might have also been some connection to Scott Powell of Rhea/Meigs Co. If anyone can help, I will gladly share my research. Dickey L. Powell
Jean Hope some of this helps: I can tell you that Tavenor was not in GA in 1830. I don't know the exact location of the Masoner's lands, but if they lived on the east side of the TN river in Rhea County, in 1820-1830, then as of 1836, without moving, they would now be in Meigs County. >From "A Compendium of Rhea and Meigs Counties, TN 1808 through 1850" Rhea County: Taxes: 1823 (Capt. This may not be Tavenor or there is a possibility this is a second marriage for the wife.) We are forming an association for the above to try and correct many, many years of neglect. Cattle have basically destroyed all but 3 stones. It is deplorable. Our goals are to clean it up, remount the stones, and get it fenced. We're looking for the Waterhouse and Brady descendants in hopes they will be willing to help, physically or monetarily, all help appreciated. If you can help, please contact me. I hope this is the first of many cemetery cleanups done here in Rhea. As I understand the law, as long as there is some evidence of it being a cemetery, the descendants have a right to maintain, beautify and protect it. After these last 3 stones are gone, I don't know how the law would handle that. It needs doing now. Edna Clack
Jean, I find no deed record in Rhea through 1831 where anyone named Masoner/Masner bought or sold land. Based on the book "Deed Books A,B,C,D,E" for Rhea County 1808-1831 published by Rhea Historical Society. Edna
