Michael, Augustine and Rachel Nichols were married in Rockingham Co. NC. They have a marriage record in that county. The Lees and some of the Nichols came to this area (and to Smith Co.) in the mid to late 1820s. The information about Columbia TN is wrong. I've seen that also. The person who wrote that had some other things wrong also (proven). As for Matthias Welch, the Welch family came to Tennessee in about 1812-13 or so. They were still in NC in the 1810, but on the tax rolls in White Co. in about the above mentioned years.
