    2. Hi I am looking for Abner Brantley HARLEY he married Ordelia Jane BYERS b1822 and d1897 and their children were Tom, Maggie, Mary Alice and then (my greatgrandfather) Harvey Brantley HARLEY, Harvey was born in Ozark Co., MO in 1884 but I do believe that Abner and family were only there a short time. I found Harvey in the 1910 census for Jackson Co., TN but I havent been able to find Abner in any Jackson Co., census and I do know that his wifes parents Andrew Nelson BYERS b 1822 and Nancy Finn b 1827 d. 1893 were listed in the 1880 Putnam Co Census and they did have a Leslie Harley age 11 living with them ( I dont know who he is) Ordelia was already out of the house and living with Abner, but I cant find them anywhere, If anyone has any info for me it will be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks in advance, Tiffany Hamilton

    3. >From what I can understand in talking with my Mother, the former Lera McCanless, when her family first moved to Cookeville, around 1920, they spent the first several days there at the Duke House [or Hotel]. It was located in the vicinity of the courthouse, on the Sparta Road. It was not a hotel in the sense we know today, but rather a boarding house. She said they arrived at the railroad depot, and went across town to the Duke House. At that time, the roads of Cookeville were not paved. A suggestion for further research, is to contact the Special Collections Librarian, Christine Spivey Jones, at Tennessee Technical University in Cookeville. You could locate TTU thru a search engine such as Infoseek, and perhaps there is a email address for the library. 2. Mitzi Freeman
    3. Hello Everyone, I'd like to take a minute to welcome all of you to the Putnam County Mailing List. This list was just created last week. Right now we have about 20 subscribers. I am doing everything that I can to build this list up so that we can help each other out in our quest discovering our roots. Rootsweb just got the listing up on their server. I have written Charles Reeves, the TNGenWeb Putnam County Host, and he is going to list the mailing list in his pages. I have written Fred Clark, and he is going to list the mailing list in the Upper Cumberland Researcher. John Fuller, who maintain the web site "Genealogy Resources on the Internet," is going to list the mailing list on his Tennessee Mailing List pages. I am currently the host for two counties at the TNGenWeb Site: Loudon and Campbell. I also host the Tennessee Tombstone Transcription pages. However, my heart lies (and will always lie) in Putnam County Genealogy. I just wanted to say welcome and that I hope we can help each other out, Mitzi Freeman

    3. Hello! I am researching the West/Peek families from Putnam Co. My great-grandfather was Isaac Lafayette (Fate) West b. Nov 1869 m. Mary A. Loftis (b.1866 in Overton County). Fate was the son of William Carroll West and Elizabeth Peek. I have some info on ascendants of William Carroll West but nothing on the Peek family. According to the 1910 Parker County, Texas census Fate and Mary A. were married about 1888. Their first two children were born in Louisiana, then they were back in Tenn and then left for Texas. If anybody has any clues as to where in LA they might have gone, please let me know. Here's the family according to 1910 census: West, Lafette [boy those census takers sure could spell:>}] age 41;m.22y b. Tenn Mary A. b. abt 1866 Tenn m.22y 9/9 children Hollis V.; 19 LA Oscar A.;17 LA Lem H.; 15 Tenn [that's my grandfather, he was born in Putnam Co] Lennie O; 12 Tenn Lizzie I or J; 9 Tenn Harrison P.; 7 Tenn Vinie E.; 3 Tenn William D.; 1 5/12 Texas That's only eight children. 1920 census shows a daughter, H.E. b. abt 1909 in Tenn. Does anybody have any info for me? Thanks so much, Tamara West Stevens
