    3. Hi! I am a new member to the list. I have been concentrating my research in Virginia and have found it might be helpful to loop back to Tennessee and see if I can follow some names back to the same place. My ancestors are Samuel Maxwell and Martha A. Patton Maxwell who came to Jackson Co (now Putnam Co.) before 1809. Four generations are buried in the Maxwell Cemetary outside of Baxter. Samuel and Martha were married in 1802 in Montgomery Co Va. Anyone with a migration pattern similar to this in the 1800 to 1820 timeframe I would like to hear from. I would also love to hear from other Maxwell researchers of course, but also anyone knowledgeable about Martha Patton's brothers, Thomas Patton, John Patton, maybe Samuel Patton. At least two of Thomas Patton's children marry two of Samuel and Martha's kids. I think a different migration pattern is taken however with a stop in Ky. Where? When? etc. Gary Maxwell

    3. Michael, Augustine and Rachel Nichols were married in Rockingham Co. NC. They have a marriage record in that county. The Lees and some of the Nichols came to this area (and to Smith Co.) in the mid to late 1820s. The information about Columbia TN is wrong. I've seen that also. The person who wrote that had some other things wrong also (proven). As for Matthias Welch, the Welch family came to Tennessee in about 1812-13 or so. They were still in NC in the 1810, but on the tax rolls in White Co. in about the above mentioned years. The Matthias Welch that you list brothers for is Matthias Welch Jr. See ya, Dale Welch [email protected] Michael Stephen Jackson wrote: > Dear Anne, > Several years ago I was sent some information on the Lee family by Alene > Lee Roberson of P.O. 3. Michael, The person(s) that came up with Augustine and Rachel getting married in Columbia are wrong. There is a marriage record of Augustine and Rachel Nichols Lee in Rockingham Co. NC. They didn't make it to Tennessee until about 1825-27. As for Matthias Welch, he and his family are on tax rolls in White Co. from about 1812-13 or so. 3. Hi everyone, I am new to your list. I am researching NEILL/NEAL and BROWN. I saw a map with Martin Creek on it and it also showed a place called BROWN HOLLOW. I have been informed that Brown Hollow is not in Jackson County, but is actually in Putnam County. Does anybody know the history of Brown Hollow or how it got its name? The BROWN family I am researching is Thomas BROWN married Nancy LITTON in 1795 Botetourt County, Va. He moved to Jackson County, Tn in 1801. Putnam was formed from Fentress, Jackson, Smith, White and Overton in 1854. I would appreciate any information, willing to share my data. Kindest regards, Vivian Vaillancourt Eagal Mobile, Alabama

Contacting you from the Ga. genweb site, hoping for some help. Thanks in advance. I'm on a bit of a quest and need all of the help I can get. I have come across an old family photo album, and would love to get it to someone to whom it might have some sentimental value. Only problem is there aren't a lot of identified people in the pictures. One of them, however, is at a birthday party in Conyers, Ga for a Miss Layon Glenn, who turned 94 on March 8, 1960. Photo may be in a nursing home. The central people in the photo album seem to be a Fred and Lina Glenn, who apparently lived in St. Pete Fla. in the 1950s, and in Tennesee (knoxville and signal mtn. areas) in the 1920-30s. I suspect Fred Glenn may be a nephew of Miss Layon Glenn, but that's just a guess. Fred Glenn had a sister identified as Effie Bean, but no information as to where she lived. There is a very old picture of a Wallis Glenn, but again no info. That's not much to go on, but I hoped the Conyers connection might give me a direction to follow. If you have any suggestions, I would much appreciate them. I just hate to think there are family members somewhere who might enjoy this old photo album, pictures mostly from 1920s-60s. Would love to get it to a descendant of some of those families,. 3. Hello All, Rootsweb does not allow email messages with HTML coding within to be posted to the list. If you do, they bounce back to me without going to the list. To send a message, you must use plain text format. Depending on what mailing program you are using, you should be able to set this option using the FORMAT pull-down menu, Preferences or Options Menu, or something along those lines. For those of you using AOL, I believe AOL automatically sends text files. If you are having problems setting your mail program to text, let me know what kind of mail program you have and we'll see if we can figure it out. Thanks, Mitzi

Also there was supposed to be a Dryer that was "Man of The Year" in the same area. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks, Cyndi Dryer Galati [email protected]

RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff
