I need some help. Is there anyone who knows anything about the MORGAN family of Putnam County around 1870? Specifically I am looking for the MORGAN who married Caroline WEST between 1870 and 1880. Caroline WEST was born November 14, 1851 to John West and Polly Brown. Thank you. Francis C. Gill
Hi Folks - I'm on a new data base line for Pointer and Cornwell principally in Putnam County around Allgood. The lines probably also extent to Overton and other counties. The specific Allgood names are Henry T. Pointer and Ethel Cornwell married circa 1900. I'd certainly appreciate any assist anyone can give. Thanks. I am looking for information on a particular HOWARD family of Putnam Co., Tn. In my records I have a Sarah VANBEBBER who married William HOWARD. Sarah b. abt. 1800 in Tn. was the daughter of Peter VANBEBBER and Ellinor VANBIBBER (cousins). Located on the 1860 census of Putnam Co. is a William HOWARD [1790], wife Sarah [1800] and children: Jacob W. [1833], Ellenor [1838], and Reason G.B. [1842]. The next dwelling has a S.J. HOWARD [1828] and wife Elizabeth [1833]. I believe this is their son Sampson Jackson HOWARD. On the 1870 census, Sarah HOWARD [1800] is living with her son William Sims HOWARD [1820] and his wife Nancy [1825]. It is believed William (the husband) died sometime after 1860 and before the recording of the 1870 census. Sarah is still living, age 79, in 1880 as she is living with her son William Sims HOWARD and his family for that census year in Putnam County. Below is what I believe to be the children of William HOWARD and Sarah (VANBEBBER) ?? 1. William Sims Howard b. 1820 m. Nancy FARLEY. 2. Zimery P. Howard b. 1825 m. Jarasha STEPHENS March 9, 1848 White Co., Tn. 3. Sampson Jackson Howard b. 1828 m. Elizabeth Jane WHITTAKER. 4. Jacob W. Howard b. 1833 m. Lucinda DIXON 1861 in Putnam Co., Tn. 5. Ellenor Howard b. 1838 6. Reason Green B. Howard b. 1842 m. Rebecca JACKSON. There may of been a daughter Levicy HOWARD who married Anthony BAKER on January 15, 1846 in White Co., Tn. I say this because Sarah had a sister Levicy VANBEBBER who married John LIFORD. I have never been able to locate William and Sarah on the 1850 census but their son William Sims HOWARD and wife were recorded on the 1850 census of White County. I know Putnam County was permanently established in 1854 and may of been formed from part of White County. I have no positive proof this is the Sarah VANBEBBER HOWARD I am looking for. But, every indication I have leads me to believe it is. There are numerous grandchildren listed on the census records of her children with the names: Peter, Jacob, Lazarus, Olive, and Nancy which are "real common" names of VANBEBBERs from this branch of the family. Any assistance in putting the proper identification on this HOWARD family of Putnam County, Tennessee would mean a great deal to me. Thanks! Submitted to the Putnam Co., Tn. List, Howard List, and VanBibber List. Gary R. Hawpe.......San Diego, CA.

Is anyone researching this family? Can anyone help? They arrived in Putnam Co area sometime between 1840 (after census) and 1843. There were 4 children, David SC; John AD (he died in Civil War); Margaret Ann md unk Wright; and Nancy Levincy. David moved to IL by 1879. By 1881 all the children were dead, Janeral and Elizabeth were still living. Would like to learn more about them. Elizabeth was my gg grandfather's sister. Also for those interested, there are some letters written to my gg grandfather from Janeral posted on the web. Hi, All! Thanks to Robin's lookup earlier I just located the first clue to my ggrandfather's parents! I thought I had looked everywhere for everything! Any way the following is the info she sent back: Chris Dryer to Letha A. Crabtree, 10 Jan. 1880 (11) By B.F. Hitchcock, J.P., W. Crabtree. The (11) is the date the license was returned. I know that Chris Dryer was supposed to have had a VERY large family! Is there anyone else with these people in their tree on here? EXCITED!!
