    1. [TNPUTNAM-L] Allison Web site
    2. I sent the following to the e-mail address on the web site but it bounced back. Can any one help with this? I just found your site through the Putnam co mailing list. I can not view the whole thing as web-tv says it is too big. Here is what I am looking for: My ggg-grandfather was John Toler WHITEFIELD who md Elizabeth THOMAS 1 Oct 1799 Orange Co. NC. Their son WILLIAM and 2nd wife Lucinda (Gentry) were my gg-grandpartents. William's 1st wife was Sallie F Lindsey (related to the Allison's). I'm trying to find out who were the parents of John T Whitefield and Elizabeth Thomas. John was born ca. 1780. Do you have any info that would help me? I've been looking for years with no luck. My "gut feeling" is that he was a son of William Whitefield and Mary Towler from Goochland Co, Va. Hoping to hear from you soon. Valesca

    1. [TNPUTNAM-L] Silver Point
    2. LYNDA RIDALL
    3. Clara Mitchell asked me to look up Silver Point, Putnam County, so I am posting it to the list in case anyone else is interested. Silver Point: Silver Point, situated at the head of Buffalo Valley, four miles north of Caney Fork River, was settled by several old families, notably the Mitchells, Maggards, Wallaces, Burtons, Pucketts and others. Five public roads lead into Silver Point, making it easily accessible to a large territory of good farming country. It is a good shipping point, especially for timber products and live stock. There is a good elementary school in Silver Point, and also two churches--Methodist and Christian. The colored people have a Christian church here. Silver Point is a second-class postoffice, with four rural routes. There are three general stores and a grist mill in the village and a saw mill near by. The population is about 100. I hope this helps. And if it's better to send these posts privately, someone can let me know. Lynda

    2. Mary
    3. I'm trying to locate any census records that may be on the net for 1900 that covers Putnam county. Does anyone know if any exist or are posted? My ancestors are: Benjamin RAY (d.1912*), Ammie Absen RAY (d. 1910), children: Willie, Bufford, Onnie, Ammie Bell, Mary Florence (my grandmother - b.1897/d.1923), Frank, Rebecca. Family were members of the Little Valley Baptist Church in Grainger County but they lived in Monterey and surrounding areas in Putnam. Any info (old cemetery records, census, marriage) for Putnam Co. that covers 1840's and beyond would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mary Lebanon, PA [email protected]

    3. Cousin Betty, My ancestor James Allison is a brother to your John and Janet Jane Allison. Most of what I know about this family prior to The War Between the States, comes from a website titled "The Gathering of the Allison Clan", http:www.allisonclan.org/clandata/index.htm#TOC. There is a lot there, and I don't know how much has been verified; but it might be worth a look. If you want to talk to me, my email address is [email protected] Denise Farrell

    3. Would anyone with access to the 1860 - 1870 - 1880 census for Putnam County be as kind to look up any Malones that are listed? I am especially interested in a THEOPHILUS MALONE and his family. If anyone would happen to be descended from Theophilus, or any Malones that originated in Virginia/North Carolina that migrated to East and Middle Tennessee, would also be happy to hear from you to compare notes on a HARVEY MALONE. Thank you, Dave Masters [email protected]

    3. Hey folks! I am a librarian working in the field since 1976. Interlibrary loan (ILL for short) is a great tool for obtaining information. Most libraries will do an ILL transaction for you. Some will charge a small amount (often for postage). The rub is that it can take many weeks or sometimes months to get a book. The lending library sets the policies for the loan of materials and how long they can be kept. they also charge sometimes. The final drawback to ILL is that many libraries will not loan genealogy or local history materials. the reason is that genealogy and local history materials are often not replaceable. I sue ILl a great deal for my research and help people at the library where I work nearly every day get books on ILL. 2. There is a copy of this book at the McClung Historical Center in Knoxville, TN. There is also an index available. Since the book is considered a "rare book", it can be read but not copied (using copier). I don't know for sure if there is a copy at the Putnam County, Library in Cookeville, TN or the Tennessee State Archives in Nashville, TN. The Tennessee archives is online and they do searches for a modest fee. L. [email protected]
