Just wanted to let you all know that I leave on vacation tomorrow night, or Wednesday morning. Heading to Tennessee:):) Anyway, if you have requested a look-up in the last few days, I apologize, but I just can't get to them right now. Darlene Tracy, another look-up volunteer is also unavailable for the next week or two. We are having a Three-Family reunion in TN this weekend of the Howell, Nicholson, and Womack kin. This will take place in 3 different areas: Friday in Heritage Park, Athens, McMinn Co.; Saturday at the Bellefounte Church Fellowship Hall in Cleveland, Bradley Co., and Sunday at Lillards' place in Polk County. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and say "hello". Who knows, we may be related:):):)...We look forward to meeting all our kin, and will be back to doing look-ups in a couple of weeks. Once again I want to give a big thank you for help you have given me about Isabella, Tennessee. I just hope someone can help me find the names I need. I have been told that a William T. Epperson was born in Copperhill, Tennessee in 1824, his father was a Peter Epperson born in North Carolina. I do have a Gaddis marrying one of Wm. T. 's daughters later on in Alabama. My husband's grandfather << William Lucallen >> would take trips into Tennessee and stay for months at a time and not say a word where he had been but with the Epperson' and now I have find some Gaddis there, I do fell he might have come into Polk Co., may be in to Copperhill. If any know of these people please mail me. Thanks, psueg@bellsouth.net Peggy Sue O'Shields-Gaddis
I found my ancestor on the Index to the Early Ocoee District Land Records found on the Polk County TN GenWeb site. I requested a copy of the records from the Tenn. State Library and Archives indicating the information I found on the GenWeb site: Record Group 50, Series 2, Rolls 18 - 22. That doesn't seem to be enought information. They want the entry book, date or number before they can process my request. There is supposed to be an index written by Lucille McClure. My library (I'm in Texas) doesn't have a copy. Does any one out there have access to this index of early land records? Could you send me the entry book, date and/or number for Jesse C. Moore, Gen. A. J. Moore, and Gov. G. W. Moore? I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks so much for your help. Kay E. I am posting this for someone who is having a problem with posting to the list. Please respond to Gjlig@aol.com, not to me. Thank you!! From: Gjlig@aol.com I am looking for any information on my Uncle Clarence Lee OWENBEY/OWENBY. He was a guard at United States Coal & Coke Co. in Lynch Kentucky in 1936. He also was on the police force Copper Hill, TN. around 1944/46. He married Mae Henley? They moved to Lenora City and he died there around 1986. He was my father's brother. My father was Rembert Luther Owenbey. Their father was Luther Allen Owenbey. Allen married tennie Smith. Allen worked in the mines in Isabella and is buried there near the airport. My father also worked in the Ducktown mines. He left there in 1939 and came to NJ to work in the mines. He came back for us. I would love to know who Allen's father and mother was. I think they were Jesse and Miriam Owenbey. Can someone please help. Thanks Virginia Owenbey Ligorano -------------------------------- End of TNPOLK-D Digest V00 Issue #71 ************************************ From root@lists6.rootsweb.com Tue Aug 1 19:02:10 2000 Return-Path: <root@lists6.rootsweb.com> Received: from lists6.rootsweb.com (lists6.rootsweb.com [63.92.80.125]) by listsearches.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) with ESMTP id e7222Aw19005 for <indexer@listsearches.rootsweb.com>; Tue, 1 Aug 2000 19:02:10 -0700 Received: (from root@localhost) by lists6.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id e7222BW01913 for indexer@listsearches.rootsweb.com; Tue, 1 Aug 2000 19:02:11 -0700 Date: Tue, 1 Aug 2000 19:02:11 -0700 Message-Id: <200008020202.e7222BW01913@lists6.rootsweb.com> From: TNPOLK-D-request@rootsweb.com Subject: TNPOLK-D Digest V00 #71 X-Loop: TNPOLK-D@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <TNPOLK-D@rootsweb.com> archive/volume00/71 Precedence: list MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/digest; boundary="----------------------------" To: TNPOLK-D@rootsweb.com Reply-To: TNPOLK-L@rootsweb.com ------------------------------ Content-Type: text/plain TNPOLK-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 71 Today's Topics: #1 [TNPOLK] Isabella, Tenn. Thanks to ever one that has sent me mail to tell me where Isabelle is, This has been a GREAT help, It is so close to Ducktown and Copperhill, Tennessee. This is very good. Thanks again Peggy Surnames, Dockery, GADDIS, Epperson. psueg@bellsouth.net
Last yr there was mention on some of the internet websites abt a map cd that shows many tiny out of the way places that are not to be found on your hwy maps. I bought one for myself and one for my dght. Several times I have been able to locate places for people that have not been able to find them through other resources. I highly recommend this cd. The title is TRAVEL MAPS USA available at Wal-Mart for $10. It has zoom features down to a 2 mile radius and out to 50 mile radius. The 2 mile radius shows cemeteries, churches, etc in most but not all locations. Be sure you get the cd above because there is also one for street locations in the USA. Just this morning there was a query asking "where is Isabella, TN?". I put my cd in and found the location of Isabella, zoomed in on the 2 mile radius and it showed mines, churches, and an RR. Bettye
can some one tell me where Isabella, Tennessee is.? I have found a Gaddis in this town but I do not want to give out the name because they may be still alive, they were born 1933. I have also found GADDIS in Copperhill, Tennessee. Hunting surnames GADDIS Dockery. Peggy psueg@bellsouth.net
