Do you think that the WPA recorded in the 1930's? I found the Blount County records on a roll of microfilm, WPA Records. Becky G.
Does anyone have or know the location of marriage records for Polk Co from 1890 to 1910 Joyce
There are NO marriage records available in Polk Co, TN until 1894, due to several courthouse fires. There is a book that has been published by Viola Jones that covers Polk Co marriages from 1894-1970.. Connie B

From: DDHANC1@aol.com (Darrell Hancock) Subject: A Time for Rememberance - Pillsbury Doughboy - A Veteran Pillsbury spokesman informed us that The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a severe yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, and the Hostess Twinkies. The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy describing Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was "kneaded." Doughboy rose quickly in show business but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Still even as a crusty old man he was a roll model for millions. Doughboy is survived by his second wife Play Dough. They have two children and one in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Yet, there were many in the region who sided with the Confederates, fighting on behalf of the Southern cause until the bitter end. The East Tennessee Historical Society is sponsoring a lecture by Dr. Todd Groce on the mountain rebels of East Tennessee on Sunday, November 14, 1999. Dr. Groce, former executive director of ETHS and current director of the Georgia Historical Society, has recently authored a book examining the lives of the region's Confederate sympathizers. His new book, Mountain Rebels: East Tennessee Confederates in the Civil War, 1860-1870, examines how economic, family, and political ties motivated a sizeable minority of East Tennesseans to fight for Southern independence. The lecture will be held at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church (620 State Street) in downtown Knoxville. Free parking will be available in the State Street parking garage. A reception for Dr. Groce and a book signing will be held at the East Tennessee Historical Society (600 Market Street) in downtown Knoxville following the lecture. The lecture and reception will be free and open to the public.
