    1. Re: [TNPICKET-L] Fw: Williams Chapel Church and Cemetery
    2. Willie, I have a picture of that church if anyone is interested. I have been there every Memorial Day weekend for the last 6 or 7 years. Fanny Harmon is my cousin. I believe the source is the Pickett County Cemetery Book, Gone but not Quite Forgotten, by Richard Pierce. I would need to check that to be sure. "On Dec 17, 1904 in a deed from F. A. Williams, the ground was purchased for the Williams Chapel Cemetery. F. Alex Williams ws the son of William F. Williams. He was born to William F. and his first wife. It is presumed that this property was some of the original tract purchased in 1868 by William F. In any event, the deed states that William Frances prucheased the ground to be used for the cemetery. The deed was for 6 acres, more or less, and states that no fence was to be put across the road running the by parson's door leading down through toward Kerney's on the south. Some of the first graves in the cemetery were Jesse Kerney, Austin Nichols, Dory Kerney, and Hawk Davidson. William Frances Williams died and was buried in the cemetery on August 9, 1918. Fanny Harmon is present treasurer of the cemetery fund. She is also treasurer for the perpetual care fund of the Pickett County Bank. This is to assure that the cemetery will continue to be taken care of in future ears." -written by Jean Beatty. I may have a picture of the church somewhere, but will have to look for it. I think the church, which stands beside the cemetery in the old Williams Chapel community of Pickett County TN, was established a little later, but I may have that wrong. Will see what I can find.
