Beaty, of Fentress Co., TN, who married Mary Rebecca Sells, aka "Pop". She was called "Pop" because when William enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War she reportedly put on his overalls and did the work of a man in keeping the farm going. He died at Flat Lick, KY of camp disease. In the 1987 HISTORY OF FENTRESS CO., TN. there is an article about the family of Curtis Lonzie "Tom" Sells, b. 18 Mar., 1897; d. Feb., 1960. He lived in Fentrss Co. in the small community of Cravens Town. He owned and operated the Jamestown Shoe Shop, which was located in a small building beside Fashion Manufacturing.. His parents were David and Melinda Elizabeth Hite Sells. Curtis Lonzie m. Gladys Marie Fowler, Sept. 20, 1941. Their children were David Thomas, Donald Gary, Betty Frances, and one son who was born and died the same day. After Curtis Lonzie's death his wife married Herbert Ralph Richards. Their children were Barbara Ann Richards and Sarah Helen Richards Curtis Lonzie's siblings were Janie, Lee Burtha, Hattie Louvania and Thomas Ernest. Their spouses and children are as follows: Janie m. Herburt Almonrode and they had one son, Chester. Lee Burtha m. Jim Johnson and they had two children, David who died at age 9 and Lydia Jo. Hattie Louvania m. Charley Moscript from Ocverton Co. They had one son, Edward. Thomas Ernest m. Della Hurst. They had 2 daughters, Myra Nan and Elizabeth Jane. I don't know if Curtis Lonzie's family is related in any way to my gg-uncle's wife or not. I hope you will find some clues in this info which will help you with your search. Sincerely, Gerri Goodwin
Gerri, I am also related to William R. Beaty of Fentress County. Just this week we made a trip to London KY to the location where my g-g-grandfather, John G. Beaty died while on a march from Somerset to Cumberland Gap. We visited the McHargue Mill, just outside London KY, which I had not been sure of the correct spelling until now. Previously, I had interpreted his wife's pension application to read "McHerge's Mill." We also drove down to Barbourville, and just about 6 miles down the road from there is Flat Lick, where William R. is supposed to have died. Do you have his pension application? I have a copy of it, transcribed by a descendant, if you don't. Anyway, would you mind sharing with me just how you are the gg-neice of William R.? I am wanting to fill in all the families in that family that I can. I will be glad to return the same information on my relationship if you are interested.
