Elaine, The new veterans book for Pickett County is full of interesting information about Pickett County veterans of all wars from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War with Iraq II. Of course, any book is as good as the value of the information that it contains. This book is well researched, but does somewhat depend upon individuals being willing to supply accurate information about their family's veterans. Other resources were researched for additional information, and that is the bonus of this book. There is a separate listing of veterans who have received the purple heart, and each listing states the medals, commendations, and honors of that veteran. There is a separate listing of Pickett County Career Veterans. In addition, for each major war there is a brief history, as well as a breif history of Pickett County. There are other special features for each war, i.e., the Revolutionary War section contains the Declaration of Independence, The War of 1812 the Star Spangled Banner words, the Civil War the Gettysburg Address, etc. There are many photos of the veterans from Civil War on. The book is being offered at $50. (plus s&h, I'm sure) and the proceeds go to a good cause. Each book is numbered and sold with a guarantee of quality. There are over 1,700 veterans listed in the book, and yes, Thomas Reagan, Civil War Union Soldier is there. So I'd say, better go ahead and get yours today.
