    1. Arneys known and unknowns
    2. Stan Arney
    3. Hi, Please note, just because a lot of people believe something is true or a fact, does NOT make it a fact, until it is a proven fact backed up by definitive tangible proof. In order to find the truth sometimes we have to reflect on what we do know, instead of what we do NOT know. I can trace my branch of the Arneys, in Tennessee as follows: Jerry Kenneth Arney (my father) s/o Stanley Goble Arney s/o Opha Jouett Arney s/o William Irvin Arney s/o Matthew Arney, Sr. s/o Peter Arney. s/o = son of Peter Arney was born in 1772 in Tryon County, North Carolina. He moved to Wythe County, Virginia in 1790 where he married and began his family. Finally, after 1800 he moved to Overton County, Tennessee where he settled and died in 1845. These are the facts that I can say with reasonable assurance, meaning these are the facts that we know to be true. Peter Arney’s father however, at this time is not a known fact, but an unknown fact. We know that Peter was born in Tryon County, North Carolina, so unless his father was deceased at the time, we can reasonably assume that his father was living in Tryon County, North Carolina as well in 1772. Facts that we do know about a Jacob Arney living in or near Tryon County, North Carolina around the same time are as follows: we know that a Jacob Arney left a will dated 1782, and that the original will still resides in the North Carolina State Archives. We also know that the same Jacob Arney passed away in 1784. From what can be read of his will, he names his wife Elizabeth, and his children (in general, not by specific name). He signs his name with the spelling Jacob Arney. We know that Peter Arney was an orphan along with his sister Catherine when Peter was 15 (or around 1787). This would coincide with the death of Jacob Arney around 1784, if Jacob Arney’s wife, Elizabeth had passed away, that would leave Peter an orphan. These are the known facts, now we just have to look into our unknowns and make them known facts as well, specifically finding out who Jacob Arney really was, where he came from, etc. I appreciate any and all information I receive and I thank you for your time, consideration, and cooperation in this matter. Stanley Arney Wichita, KS Researching my Arney heritage, looking for definitive tangible proof of each of their existence, so we KNOW the truth and can share it with others. Building a website that will make it easier for those who come after me to find their Arney lineage. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
