The Fanny Jane Pryor buried at Gunter Cemetery lists the dates (b. 6/5/1931, d. 6/5/1931). Were the dates in the cemetery book wrong, or was this another Fanny Jane Pryor? Also, in the 1880 Fentress County Census (Fentress County, TN: ED# 40, Supv. District 2, Page 10, Household 100) lists the following, which would show he had an earlier wife (if this is the same Charles Pryor -- dates seem to match) Charles PRIAR, head, age 25, TN,TN,TN; Farmer Elizabeth, wife, age 26, TN,TN,TN James M, son, age 4, TN,TN,TN William C., son, age 2, TN,TN,TN Charles and family are enumerated beside Parker and Mary PRIAR and their family. Do you have where Charles Levander Pryor and family are enumerated in 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Census? Elaine, Here is the notice again. I would suggest you call first: A new Veteran's book has just been released for Pickett County veterans. It is available from the Pickett County Library, 106 S. Main, Byrdstown, TN 38549. Phone is 931-864-6281. This book has been in the making for several years and was compiled and edited by John David Hassler (who unfortunately died before seeing the fruit of his labor), W. Howard Groce, and Ronald Gene Maiwald. This is a very well done book, and is well worth the $50, the proceeds of which will go toward library programs, especially in the new library. Veterans from the Revolutionary War to the 2001 and 2003 Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqui Freedom, are included, and also a long list of Cold War and other Peacetime Veterans. Geneologists will find this book a helpful and interesting resource. A three page list and description of medals and commendations awarded to servicemen during these periods is helpful. And a copy of the Constitution of the United States is printed in the back of the book along with all the various amendments to the Constitution and their dates of adoption. Finally, a listing of the sources used for the compilation of the various records is given. I recommend this book if you have veterans or family members of veterans who have lived in Pickett County. What's also great is that the book will be updated in case there are veterans who were missed in the first printing. Rick, Yes, CMSgt Delbert L. Johnson, USAF, 1954-1981 is in the book. Sorry, every person who might have veterans to be listed can't possibly be known, but you can send your information now to the Pickett County Library and they will get it to the right source, and the information will be added in the next revision/update in about 2006. Elaine, The new veterans book for Pickett County is full of interesting information about Pickett County veterans of all wars from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War with Iraq II. Of course, any book is as good as the value of the information that it contains. This book is well researched, but does somewhat depend upon individuals being willing to supply accurate information about their family's veterans. Other resources were researched for additional information, and that is the bonus of this book. There is a separate listing of veterans who have received the purple heart, and each listing states the medals, commendations, and honors of that veteran. There is a separate listing of Pickett County Career Veterans. In addition, for each major war there is a brief history, as well as a breif history of Pickett County. There are other special features for each war, i.e., the Revolutionary War section contains the Declaration of Independence, The War of 1812 the Star Spangled Banner words, the Civil War the Gettysburg Address, etc. There are many photos of the veterans from Civil War on. The book is being offered at $50. (plus s&h, I'm sure) and the proceeds go to a good cause. Each book is numbered and sold with a guarantee of quality. There are over 1,700 veterans listed in the book, and yes, Thomas Reagan, Civil War Union Soldier is there. So I'd say, better go ahead and get yours today. By the way, I'm not a salesman for this book, just impressed with it's quality and content.
