My greatgrandmother was Sarah Riley Grooms of TN b 1820 probably in the Overton/Pickett area and later Fentress Co. I believe her to be the daughter of William and Mary Riley as they bought land from William in 1847. William's mother was Nancy Evans Riley, daughter of Thomas and Jane Howerton Evans. Many of the surnames you mention can be found in marriages in the Riley/Evans lines. After William's death in 1851, Mary lived with daughter Margaret and Isham Huckaby. There are Garrett marriages in that line as well. Ann at meljr09@msn.com

    1. MTGS and THS Annual Seminar
    2. Katheryne Cowan
    3. This email is to invite our sister Middle Tennessee Rootsweb site members to the Annual Seminar hosted by the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society and the Tennessee Historical Society. Four genealogists and historians who have been previously voted as favorite speakers will headline this all-day seminar devoted to a variety of popular topics for both beginning and advanced family historians. Learn how to relate your ancestor to his era, how to practice proven genealogical techniques in both "old" and "new-style" research; how to mine early pioneer treasures hidden in the Draper Papers, and how to use cybergenealogy to your best advantage. Saturday, November 19, 2005 is the date; the Brentwood Public Library is the place. A registration form and a map and further details on our speakers and their topics can be found at http://www.mtgs.org <http://www.mtgs.org/> and http://www.rootsweb.com/~tntgs Let me thank all of you who joined the MTGS Rootsweb site. You may want to check back and review the surnames. As I worked through putting them on the site, I finally decided to list the surnames by the first surname contained in the email. My email box was flooded and I fear some were lost. If you do not find your surname, please resubmit your email to Mid-TN-L@rootsweb.com. It would be helpful if you would put as much information as you have in your email (such as dates; counties; and any other info you have). I have tried to post the website name at the top of each surname listing to make it easy for recipients of a "forward" to find our site. Hope to see you at the annual Seminar. 1. Where are all the Arney researchers
    2. Stan Arney
    3. Hey where are all the Arney researchers? Have you all gathered all the information you need or want? I refuse to believe that there is no one among my line of Arneys that is still looking for information. Again, my line of Arneys that is known to me at this point begins with Jacob Arney who died in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1784. His son Peter Arney (born in 1772 in Tryon/Lincoln County, North Carolina), moved from Lincoln County, North Carolina after 1792 to Wythe County, Virginia there he married and began his family. Sometime between 1800 and 1814 he moved again to Overton County, Tennessee, where he died in 1845. Doesn't anyone want to know more about Jacob Arney? Where he came from, who his parents were? Where did our branch of the Arneys originate? The rest of my branch of the Arneys is as follows: Peter Arney (1772-1845) Matthew Arney, Sr. (1818-1902) William Ervin Arney (1841-1887) Opha Jouett Arney (1875-1956) Stanley Goble Arney (1909-1979) Jerry Kenneth Arney (1938-1998) Stanley Allen Arney (1961- ) My branch of the Arneys have been in the same general area of Tennesse that Peter Arney was, mostly in Overton County and Pickett County, Tennessee. My grandmother, Bertha Claudine (Melton) Arney still lives in Overton County, Tennessee today, in Livingston. Many last surviving uncle still lives in Tennessee, my last surviving aunt will be selling her house and moving back their next spring, and many of my cousins still reside in Tennessee. If you are researching this branch of the Arneys, please let me know, I would be happy to share what I have, and more than happy to team up and try to solve the mystery of Jacob Arney, who was he, where did he come from, who were his parents, etc. [Note: For a long time many Arney researchers believed that Jacob Arney was the son of a Frederick Ernigh, but further research has proven that to be FALSE. See what research can do, it can prove or disprove.] Have a great weekend. Stan Arney Stanley Arney Wichita, KS Researching my Arney heritage, looking for definitive tangible proof of each of their existence, so we KNOW the truth and can share it with others. 2. Willie R Beaty
    3. Gerri, I am also related to William R. Beaty of Fentress County. Just this week we made a trip to London KY to the location where my g-g-grandfather, John G. Beaty died while on a march from Somerset to Cumberland Gap. We visited the McHargue Mill, just outside London KY, which I had not been sure of the correct spelling until now. Previously, I had interpreted his wife's pension application to read "McHerge's Mill." We also drove down to Barbourville, and just about 6 miles down the road from there is Flat Lick, where William R. is supposed to have died. Do you have his pension application? I have a copy of it, transcribed by a descendant, if you don't. Anyway, would you mind sharing with me just how you are the gg-neice of William R.? I am wanting to fill in all the families in that family that I can. I will be glad to return the same information on my relationship if you are interested.
