    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VgB.2ACE/655.1 Message Board Post: I do not know the maiden name of Rufus Gooding's second wife, "Ellen L. ?", but I have that she was first married to Thomas N. Babb (b. abt 1852 in GA, d. bet. Bet. 1880 - 1900) -- (see the 1880 Overton County, TN Census, District 11). They had a child William Jasper Babb (b. December 30, 1872, d. 1939 in FL) who married Ida E. Rich (b. August 06, 1880, d. November 17, 1901, buried Locust Grove Cemetery, Clinton County, KY). After Ellen's first husband died, evidently she married a "Stailey", because on the 1900 Pickett County Census she was living with her son and his wife (1900 Pickett County, TN: ED# 58, District 5, Page 7A). On the 1880, 1900, and 1910 Census records it shows that Ellen's father was born in VA, and her mother in SC. From the posting on the Pickett County website, you can see that the burial location for Rufus K. Gooding and Ellen (and their dates) were given, by someone else.

Gooding who was raised in Kentucky. He went to Missouri and ventured down to Sabinal, Texas. He was married to Martha Hurt. She passed away in 1906. My grandfather William B. Gooding was born in Byrdstown, Tenn. Not long after Martha passed away Rufus left Sabinal, Texas where his sons lived and raised families. He remarried. In the 1910 Census I found a Rufus in Prect. 5 in Pickett, County, Tennessee. I am trying to find out when he passed away and who he was married to. He would have been my ggrandfather. I have a photo of him and his first wife. Would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.
