This is the only one I've found on the census that is close to his birth date that was born in KY (on the 1900 census, it lists that the children's father was born in KY). Also see the 1880 Metcalfe County, KY Census : ED# 192, Edmonton Precinct, Page 17, Household 175 On the 1900 Census, I do not find an Alex/Alexander Glass born about 1863 anywhere on the census records, so possibly he is the one above that you are searching for, since your Alex Glass was born in 1863 and died in 1898. The one in Metcalfe County, KY is the son of Lewis and Mary Glass.

I know Alex Glass married Lou Martin. First, I am trying to determine who the parents of Alex were. I know he was born in 1863, but I do not know who his family was. I believe that Alex and Lou had seven children. Five of which I have names. Mable, Ephraim, Donna, Charles and John. According to the 1900 census Lou claimed she was widowed and had seven children with five still living. In the 1910 census she claimed she had eight children with five living. Any information that would help, would be most appreciated. Thank you, Karen Coffey

    1. Another piece of the Jacob Arney puzzles mystery
    2. Stan Arney
    3. Hi Folks, You all know me as a genealogy detective trying to solve the mystery of my Arney ancestors, more specifically, Jacob Arney. It seems the more pieces of the puzzle I find, the more confusing it seems to get. First, it was believed that Jacob Arney was the son of Frederick Ernigh, who arrived in the USA in 1732. A piece of the puzzle provided by Tom Rider, proved that could NOT be a possibility. So, by tracing my ancestors backwards, Peter Arney was born in Tryon County, NC in 1772. Peter later moved to Virginia before settling in Tennessee. Documentation (his will) shows that Jacob Arney died in 1784 in Lincoln County, NC. Documentation (his will) shows that Peter's brother, Christian (born in 1750 in York County, PA), died in 1834 in Lincoln County, NC. Documentation shows (tax rolls) that Peter Arney was in Jackson County, TN in 1802. Now, I just received information I had not seen or had access to before that throws a "potential" bombshell into this possibility. In an article submitted by Cloyd Arney on Jacob and Elizabeth Arney. It is published in the Overton County History Book. Here is an interesting exert: "Jacob Arney, born 1750 in Pennsylvania, married Elizabeth-. They had one son Peter, born 1772 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. The family moved to Wythe County, Virginia, from there they moved in 1799 to Jackson County, Tennessee. Jacob purchased land near the Obey River near what is known as Duncan Bottom. After Clay, Overton, and Pickett Counties were formed, it was located in the edge of Pickett County, TN." First of all, it states that Jacob Arney was born in 1750. If so, he could NOT possibly be the father of Christian Arney also born in 1750. Secondly, it states that Jacob Arney moved with Peter to Virginia and on to Tennessee purchasing land around 1799. If so, he could NOT possibly be the same Jacob Arney (father of Christian and Peter Arney) who died in Lincoln County, NC in 1784, could he! So, you see sometimes the more you find, the more confusing it can get. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Sincerely, Stan Arney Wichita, KS Stanley Arney Wichita, KS Researching my Arney heritage, looking for definitive tangible proof of each of their existence, so we KNOW the truth and can share it with others. 3. I have UNKNOWN Kearney married Minta "Minnie" Pile. Minnie b. abt 1876. They had three children (at least): Obe Kearney Ruby Kearney Dora Kearney m. Gifford Davidson. UNKNOWN Kearney and Minta "Minnie" Pile Kearney lived on Holbert Creek in a log house on the north side of 127 just below the series of curves where Whittenburgs lived. Minta Pile was the daughter of Jefferson Pile and Elizabeth Flowers. I'm pretty sure that the old log house was built by Jefferson Pile or was bought with about 20 acres of land from Zilpha Holbert Beaty. Have copy of deed, but not sure if it included the house or not. Sadly, this house has been torn down, but was standing until the nineteen sixties, and was owned by Gifford and Dora Kearney Davidson. This land was owned by Manson Flowers (Elizabeth's father) prior to and during the civil war. 3. Gerri, I went to the Pickett County Library (by the way, they are now in their new location on West Main Street just west of the Regions Bank - very nice!) and looked in Richard Pierce's cemetery book "Gone but not quite forgotten" and this is what it has on the Howard Cemetery: Located on Crickett Creek, about 2.4 miles from old barn at Robbinstown. There are approximately 25 graves; only two are properly marked. Marked graves: 1. Eliga Smith 04 March 1854 27 May 1910. Son of George W. and Judith Garrett Smith; Brother to John "Booher" Smith of Monroe TN. 2. Mary Howard Smith 25 January 1850 20 January 1928 Eliga and Mary Smith are the grandparents of Cecil Smith of Grimsley in Fentress Co., TN. Cecil was born and raised on Tater's Hill. He stated he has five brothers, one sister, one nephew and one cousin buried here with fieldstone marked graves. Fieldstone Marked Graves number approximately 23. Those identified include: 3. Earl Clinton SMith (stillborn) 19 May 1923 19 May 1923 4. Aufra Oldis (Alfred Otus) Smith 25 May 1921 11 September 1923 5. Arthur Smith (Stillborn) 23 December 1928 23 December 1928 6. Flossie Smith (Stillborn) 23 December 1929 23 December 1929 7. Denton Smith (stillborn) 23 October 1932 23 October 1932 8. Charles SMith (stillborn) 17 July 1937 17 July 1937 Special thanks to Cecil Smith for his help in supplying data. --- Gerri, I was told that this cemetery is off Robbinstown Road after you turn left at the intersection where Winningham road splits off. There is an old farm map in A. R. Hogue's History of Fentress County, TN, 1916 that shows where Crickett Creek is locate, and running into the East Fork of Obey River just north of Riverton. Getting from Byrdstown to Crickett Creek might take some more specific instructions than what I have, but I know that if you take the Moodyville Road east (325) toward Moodyville and turn right onto Faix Road and go to the top of the mountain where the road splits, and take the left split, and just keep on that road, it will take you to the area you want to be in. You would be looking for the intersection of Robbinstown and Winningham roads. It's a ways back there, but the road has recently been paved and is an excellent road for the country. Hope this is of some help, and if I can answer other questions, don't hesitate to ask. To other members of the list: If anyone knows that I have given the wrong instructions, please don't hestitate to correct it for Gerri. 3. From Richard Pierce's book, "Gone But Not Quite Forgotten".............. Howard Cemetery- From Byrdstown, take South Main St. (Clark Mtn. Rd.). Travel 1.5 miles to top of hill. Turn east (left) at crossroads. Still on Clark Mtn. Rd, travel 3.3 miles. At intersection of Clark Mtn. Rd. and Robbins./Faix Rd., Turn southwest (right) onto Robbins/Faix Rd. Travel 8.9 miles. Turn onto Jeep trail. Travel about 1 mile. Turn south (right) onto another trail and travel about 0.1 mile. Richard's book also says that Howard Cemetery is located on Crickett Creek , about 2.4 miles from an old barn at Robbinstown. There are approximately 25 graves with only two being properly marked. Those are Eliga Smith 04 Mar 1854 to 27 May 1910 and Mary Howard Smith 25 Jan 1850 to 20 Jan 1928. Hope this helps.
