No as there are more than one, land transaction between Stephen and Eli SRand also with some of the other siblings in that family. Most are in South Carolina a few in southern North Carolina. John Langford and Patsy Duke of Warren County North Carolina are NOT the parents. This John died June 09 1828 in Warren Co NC. He was Married to Martha "Patsy"Duke June 27 1787 in Warren Co N.C. who died at a later date. Their children were According to the Will he left. ( my mistake) two years and volumes of film, books I found his Will. also a early land deed. They never lived in South Carolina, the family had moved down from Landenberg VA. His father was George Langford and mother was Judith. Threw it all in a tote box and started searching again. All was not wasted as about last Dec. I went to share bits of it with the Langford list. Hence a book is forth coming from descendants of that family, the research I had was the pieces they were missing to connect their family. So I do feel great about that! Yep I sent all my notes/research to them! In about another two years, a trip to the TN Archives I found what was my first was the first hint that Eli Sr may be the father.. of James and Stephen. ( James oldest son is named Eli Holman Langford born ca 1818 Jackson Co TN. In fact in the 1820 census James Lankford is listed as head of household, he shows himself, his wife, their young son and Male over 45 years of age living with them.. It is thought it was Eli sr, who certainly passed away shortly there after. he would have been now about 875-80 years of age. Digging deeper and have now for three years and nothing has told me it is otherwise. I can tell you volumes about Eli sr and all his children. James was the youngest. born 1797 As for this John (Jack) Langford I have no idea. While I was on this search trying to find James daddy (our lineage) I did run into a John Langford in Rowan County N.C. he did marry a Martha Whitehead. he shows in the 1790 census and in about 1794, there is a land transaction for them, they sold their land in Rowan County N.C. and I have never located him again. My thoughts are that John (Jack) who turns up in Overton Co 1830 Census is very possible lived in that northwest corner of S.C as he served under Hodges and Nash. with out looking one of the two families owned the post-office/store at Merrittsville S.C. (Greenv ille Co ( the town is no more but is under the lake /town water supply) Not far from this Post Office there also lived a Charley Crane.. could that have been Mary Polly Crane Langford's family? Source: old map of Greenville Co. If so that places this John in Greenville Co., sort of.. Who ever the other Langford is who served with in the same unit as John (jack) died in the War of 1812. I feel sure was related to him. I need to look who it was. ( I will get back to you with that.) Please feel free to ask me questions.. And I will dig out my notes and shrew what other Langford's were in that area in that time period. It would be nice to find something that is solid as to where and who his family was.., is! At least that is my goal. ( DNA results from descendant) 1820 somewhere in Texas as they and a son born 1820 in Texas) He came to Overton County or back to(?) about 1821-22. 4.Then there was John (Jack)( born 1787-88) who served in the War of 1812.. their family tradition says he was the son of a Rev. John Cranston. He married Mary Polly Crane ca 1811-1816 location unknown There was a book written about 1978 that sits in the Overton County public Library that says these four are brothers. ( great research for the era it was written in) That is not a fact, in fact not at all. Now the job is to finish clearing this up completely. We need to know who this John (Jack) family was ( parent sand siblings) and where was he is the 1820 Census? There was also another Langford who served in the War of 1812 who enlisted with this John= who shows in Overton County TN in the 1830 Census. If you look at the birth dates and look at the Will date of Rev. John Langford.. 1796 it is not possible for him to have been the father of James born 1797 or of Rufus Wiley born 1800. The Rev. J.J.langford named Campbell town asthe community (in Goergia?) where hisgrandfather John ,Langford, Jr. lived. In those early days there was aCampbellton (not Campbelltown) in SouthCarolina just above Augusta, Ga. Thiswould indicate John Langford, Jr.lived on the Georgia side of the SavannahRiver. Of interest--there was, in1770, a Campbellton in Anson County, NorthCarolina. At least two Langfords,James and William, are named as signers ofpetitions there between1770-1789.The Will of John Langford c.1728-l! 796 Copied from the OriginalThe will of the above John Langford as givenon page seven of this book(a reprint of the! first edition) is, in part, inerror. A book entitled "South CarolinaBaptists," pages 169-170 mentionsCloud Creek Baptist Church, later calledWest Creek Baptist Church. It namesRev. John Langford as minister in 1790.It also mentions that in 1791, Rev.John Langford was in the congregation butnot preaching. We mention the age and health of John Langford c.1728-l796 of-BuffaloCreek, whose home appears to have been close by this church. Thiswriter hasestimated his birth as c.1728. Others have suggested it may havebeen 1725or even five or more years earlier. This would indicate an age offrom 62 to65 years or more! . The above John Langford made a will in 1791 saying he wassick and weak inbody. This indicates his health was such that he could nolonger p! reach, eventhough he lived some five years more. Cloud Creek Baptist Church wasin old Edgefield County, now SaludaCounty. Its exact location has not beenidentified by this writer. Old maps(cont'd page 131)131of Edgefield County (1817) and Newberry County (1820)indicate that the areain which John Langford lived on Buffalo Creek,Newberry County wasrelatively close to the Cloud Creek in Edgefield County. The distance wasprobably within ten miles, but on opposite sides of theSaluda River.John Langford died in 1796 and the "Inventory of his Estate"indicates hemay have preached. Listed in the Estate were his Bible, hisTestament, hishymn book and his Practice of Piety.Mrs. Coleman Jeffcoat, theformer Maude Langfo! rd of Lexington, S.C. whosemother was a member of the West Creek Baptist Church, was contactedfor possible historic information. She stated, shehad been unable touncover local history on the Cloud Creek Church but sentsome informationabout the West Creek Church. S! he mentioned that her sisterClaudia RebeccaLangford Boatwright who die d in September 1941 and her fatherHarry LeeLangford, who died in March 1957, had first been buried in thatchurchyard, but later their bodies were moved to the Batesburg Cemetery whereher sisterVirginia Langford Clements had been buried in 1971. She alsosentinformation from a publication prepared in 1970 about Saluda County bytheSaluda County Tri-centennial Commission. That publication entitled"SaludaCounty in Scene and Story" mentioned the Cloud Creek Church andbrieflydiscussed the West Creek Church as follows."The details surroundingthe early days of the West Creek Baptist Church areobscure, except for thefact that the church was organized in 1790 by theNathan Norris family. Atthat time a building for ! the purpose of worship waserected near Cloud's Creek and the church wasfirst known as the Cloud'sCreek Baptist Church. Later, a new building waserected on the site nowknown as "Crouch's Dairy." At this time the name ofthe body was changedfrom Cloud's Creek Baptist Church to ! West Creek BaptistChurch. In the year1882, after several families had separated themselvesfrom the body toconstitute the Batesburg Baptist Church, property wasprocured and abuilding was erected on the site where the church nowstands."As the church grew in numbers, Sunday School rooms were added. Asneeds forspace continued to press, in 1952 a complete educational plantwasconstructed, and the auditorium (which is the original building onthissite) vas enlarged and brick veneered.".Calk Family William and JamesCalk We mention Calk family because William Calk was the second husband of_cyPressnel Langford, the mother of Asa and James Langford.
