Hi, My name is Ona Hall - Scalf from Whitley County, Kentucky. I have been trying to help out a friend of mine with some family research. I found a record in the LDS records pertaining to a marriage for JOSEPH JOWDY and DONA JOHNSON in OVERTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE. The date of marriage was 26 FEB 1899. This family eventually settled in Harlan and Laurel Counties in Kentucky with descendents also found in Whitley County, Kentucky. (The surname for Joseph has since changed from JOWDY to JODY.) I'm not familiar with OVERTON COUNTY courthouse records. Can this marriage record be located in the courthouse? I know that floods and fires have destroyed alot of records through the years. We've been trying to locate Joseph's parents, and thought that a marriage record may provide some additional information. We have not been able to locate a death record for him as of now.
