    3. >>There were Tiptons in Fentress County long ago. Still are. I think I remember some of them being Revolutionary soldiers who got grants in this area. A lot of Tiptons lived in the Buffalo Cove area of West Fentress County. Was that the William Carr who is buried on L. G. Puckett's farm near the City Lake in Livingston. Carr Creek is named for him I believe. Gary D. Norris<< Gary, This William Carr is the one buried in the Richard Copeland Cemetery between Livingston and Cookeville. What is the L.G. Puckett farm cemetery called in your book? There is a road in the same area as the Richard Copeland cemetery that is called "Carr Shack Road". Do you know the history of this road or how it got it's name? Billy D. Carr

    3. Billy, I think it was called the William Carr Cemetery because that is what L. G. Jr. called it during an investigation prior to the building of the industrial park. I went there to see the cemetery myself, but the cattle had pretty well crushed the sandstone rocks. All were down. I think there were about 5-10 graves there. The site should be between Old Highway 42 and Highway 111. It is north of Bilbrey's Horse Stables. I think a new house was just built very near the graves. The Pucketts may still own the land as far as I know. L. G. Puckett Jr. said he was told the graves were those of the William Carr family when he bought the farm many years ago. I know he owned it in the late 1950' because we use to have cookouts there at that time. I have not heard of the Carr Shack Road, but the local government officials ask local residents to help in naming those roads about 20 years ago. I would say the road was just named for a physical site on the road. There must have been such a Carr Shack located there at one time. That shack may have been a very old house. Gary D. 3. Gary, Microsoft Streets and Trips is often helpful to find obscure road names. I put in Carr Shack Road in and it came up with Carr Smack Road, Livingston, Tennessee so I'm passing on the info. (No hint as to the Shack/Smack difference.) Carr Smack Road runs for 1.5 miles parallel to Hwy 111. Windle Road changes into Carr Smack Road when it crosses Hwy 85 and remains Carr Smack Road until it intersects Upper Millham Road. This may not be new information for you but I thought I'd pass it on. Also, Streets and Trips lists the location of 12 Carr Cemeteries in Tennessee and several Copeland Cemeteries. Carr and Copeland both with several sites near Livingston.
