    1. RE: [TNOVERTO] Benjamin Brown/Sarah Sevier Family

    3. It is the Obey River. Many of the Browns lived and died in the Dale Hollow Lake Pool area which was formed by the Obey and Wolf Rivers. People still use the incorrect name today because they are so closely related. I think the Obey River was named in honor of an early explorer. Many early settlers referred to the river as Obey's River. The explorer may have been Obey Terrell if I remember correctly. The Obed River of Cumberland and Morgan Counties was named in honor of Chief Obed. That particular river flows eastward into the Tennessee River system while the Obey flows westward into the Cumberland River system. Gary D. Deeds to their land refer to "Obeds River". I am assuming that what is now "Obey River" is the same watercourse. If my assumption is correct can anyone tell me when and why the name was changed? If my assumption is not correct can anyone tell me the presnt name of what was "Obeds River"? The "Obed River" in the present counties of Cumberland and Morgan is apparantly a different stream altogether Thanks in advance to whoever can help me with this!. ==== TNOVERTO Mailing List ==== OVERTON LIST ADMINISTRATOR: [email protected] ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
