I have a lot of information on the West family. Do you know where in North Carolina your James West was supposed to have come from? How close to my Isaac West did your James West live in 1820? They are most likely related in some way. My Isaac West was born in 1790 and died in Overton County, TN in 1836. His wife was Mary and she didn't die until 1863. The youngest son she had was James West and he was still living with his widowed mother in the 1850 census of Overton County, TN. Isaac West and wife Mary West and James West and his wife are all buried in Overton County, TN. Do you know any of your James' brothers and sisters? I may have some information on them in my files. That's another one of my problems. No siblings names, No names for the first wife and 5 children. The only inforamtion I have is that according to the 1850 census he was born in NC and according to a now deceased family researcher, his father was Jacob West. Of course, he probably was quoted that name from a son or grandson of James West and that too could have been from a vague memory. It is so frustrating but hopefully someone can see a resemblance to this line. According to the 1820 Overton census records, Isaac and the James in question is around the same age, so could they have been brothers perhaps first cousins. Hope you might help. I know that Isaac West and James West are not brothers. They could be some sort of cousins. I am like you, I have never heard of anyone looking for James and connecting him to my Isaac West. They should be related though. Have you ever searched for the land records of James West and see who he sold his land to when he left this area? Those records could reveal some good information. Perhaps his brother or some close family member purchased his land. My Isaac West was from Lincoln County, North Carolina. This might give you a place to start looking for James.
