There was an Abner West who married Levina Belk on February 28, 1794 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. There was a Reuben West who married Susannah Belk between 1792-1995. They also lived in Lincoln County, North Carolina. These two are related to my Isaac West and most of the others who ended up in Overton County, Tennessee. Both Abner and Reuben West seem to have been old enough to have been the father of your James West. This might at least give you a starting point. Yes, that is true. But that leaves me speculating since a now deceased researcher has his father listed as Jacob West.
