thank you for the info, I was looking for information back in the early 1800, for the McDonalds, thought there might be some connection. lawanna -----Original Message----- From: Gary Norris [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 8:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TNOVERTO] WRIGHT, BERTRAM, again! The McDonald's own all the land around the church. There are been three different churches there. I went with my grandparents to the first old white weatherboard house. It was eventually torn down for a new brick house. The new house was destroyed in a tornado back in 1974 as I recall. It has since been rebuilt. The congregation split I think and it is as small as it was 30 years ago. I would guess the church goes back to about 1900. I think John Colin McDonald was one of the first McDonalds in Overton County. I believe I picked him up on a travel journal kept by Governor John Sevier around 1800. The governor stayed at his house more than once. It was said they were old friends from the days of the battle at Kings Mountain, North Carolina. I got my information from a book by George Allen Knight. The title is "Our Wounderful Overton County Heritage." The Knights were descendants of the Seviers. Gary D.
