My GGM, Amanda Belle (Davis) Abston was born 2/17/1860 at Monroe, OvertonCo.,TN., the daughter of Nelson and Ruth Vertner (Windle) Davis. Supposedly she was the third of 3 children, with a brother, William born 1854 at Monroe and a sister, Mary Catherine born Nov. 1858 at Monroe and who subsequently married Tom Colson of Monroe. However the 1850 Overton Co. census shows Nelson Davis and wife Ruth, ages 44 and 31 with a Joseph Davis, age 14 living with them. Based upon the ages of Nelson and Ruth it is logical that Joseph is also a son; ie - Nelson would have been 30 and Ruth 17 at time of his birth. Joseph would have been 24 in 1860 census and is not with the family then so do not know if he was dead or moved out on his own. Can anybody help me determine if and when he died etc.?
