    3. The 25th Tennessee Infantry existed in the yeas 1861 - 1865. A. L. Hawkins was captured and spent time in Elmira Prison in New York State. He was swapped in a prisoner exchange on February 25, 1865. That meant he was in a terrible physical condition at that point. The very sick ones were the only Confederate soldiers that General U.S. Grant would allow to be swapped at that date in the war. Most had chronic dysentery and had to spend the last two months of the war healing in mountain waters of North Carolina. Gary D.
