A good reference for researching Cherokee ancestry is http://www.tngenweb.org/cherokee_by_blood/ This tells you how to research the Guion Miller and Dawes rolls. A suggestion, after you have determined if, and which roll, your ancestor is on, check with LDS Family History library...they can obtain the microfilm and you can print them out...it is a lot faster and cheaper than going thru the National Archives. The Guion Miller rolls are applications taken in 1906 or '07. I found that my great grandfather on my grandmother's side had applied for these benefits [denied, due to lack of information], but his application gave me 4 generations of information, and confirmed some family "legends." Or also any Hawkins or Dales? A lot of my Thompsons still live in Cookeville and Hilham, thankyou, Ashley
