Here is a link for lou to the Family Tree DNA site. Some thigs you may want to consider: How many markers do you want tested. You can get 12, 25, 37,42 or 67. I recommend the 37 marker test. 12 is less expensive but it is only a come-on and you will need more eventually. DNA will not tell you what coutry your ancestos came from, but I suspect you know that. It will not tell you very much directly, it is throught analysis and comparison with other DNA samples of the same and different family names that most of the information is derived. If there is no existing surname DNA page for your family there will be none to comare with. But you do have the opportunity to sart a DNA page for that family name. You can go to www.ysearch.org and search by surname and see if there is another site that had SWALLOWS dna. If there is another site you may want to use a different testinf lab and post to the existing board. Here is the Family Tree Link for you; http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/conner/index.html this happens to be my family line link: Click at the top under RECRUITMENT and you will find a place to order a kit if you elect to use Family Tree: ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray & Debbie Lowman" <lowman84@mvn.net> To: <TNOVERTO@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 9:25 AM Subject: [TNOVERTO] SWALLOW Y-DNA testing > Has anyone had the Y-DNA testing done on the SWALLOW(S) line? I checked Family Tree surname projects. We have a Crawford surname project with them. There does not seem to be a Swallow one. You could initiate it. Contact Family Tree. I have a book of biographies in which I noticed a John Lowrie Beveridge, Governor of Illinois from 1873-6. His parents were George and Ann Beveridge. He was well educated. First he taught in Wilson, Overton and Jackson Counties, Tenn. He read law and was admitted to the Bar, etc. I was just wondering if anyone from Overton County knows anything about him. There is so much more available about him in this book. Velda Wittenbrink Moore vel_chick@verizon.net http://www.larrett.com/velda/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrcgs/

>From the Hilltop Express Newspaper, Monterey, TN http://www.hilltopexpress.net Book sales continue in spite of bankruptcy filing and criminal sentence By Dale Welch dale@hilltopexpress.net Mary Hopson, a Cookeville, Tenn. author, said that her current book sales will continue, even after she had filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Hopson filed the bankruptcy shortly after she was sentenced to a total of eight years (Circuit Court Clerk notes say Tennessee Department of Corrections, 4 years at a standard 30-percent consecutive on case numbers 95-0012 and 95-0014; Community Corrections, 4 years). Her latest book "Comprehensive Pictorial History of Putnam County, Tennessee, Vol. 1," she said, is the first of a six-volume set to be printed. Originally, she advertised and pre-sold the book as a 1,000-page work, but has since changed to the six-volume set. Hopson said that those who pre-ordered would get the first three when printed. In a email to the Hilltop Express publisher, Dale Welch, she said book sales of the first volume and pre-sales of future volumes would continue. "Fact is," Hopson stated, "these books don't belong to me, I have not signed a contract with anyone concerning these books because they do not belong to me." The first volume, including the index, has around 255 pages. It is hardback bound and has several pages that appear to be faded. Several photos and stories are included. Some of the stories included had been originally been written by Hilltop Express publisher Dale Welch for the newspaper and other previous publications and other contributors. Contributors of articles and photos had nothing to do with the sale of the book. Hopson does not have permission from Dale Welch to use any more of his articles. Hopson was convicted by a jury on Nov. 21, 2006 on a charge of theft of between $10,000 - $60,000 in Putnam County Criminal Court. According to court records, Hopson stole money over a period of time from her employers, Shirley and Reba Roberson, who own Stor-N-Lock, in Cookeville. Once confronted she paid a portion of it back, but once convicted by jury of the theft, owes restitution to the Robersons totaling $27,913, court records state. Because of the conviction on the theft charges, her probation on other charges dating back to the 1990s were also revoked. Hopson was granted four years of judicial diversion on Nov. 17, 1997 after she pled guilty to charges of fraudulent acts or devices in connection with the sale of a security. That conviction involved the sale of another one of her books. The judicial diversion was extended in Nov., 2001, but because of the felony theft conviction, Judge John Maddux had it fully revoked early this year. Instead of prison time, Hopson was sentenced to Community Corrections Probation and has to follow a list of over 20 restrictions, including house arrest. cannot have a firearm, being liable for all court cost/fines/restitution, etc. Just days after her Jan. 25, 2007 sentencing for the theft, Hopson filed her bankruptcy proceeding on Jan. 30. The Putnam Circuit Court Clerk was notified on Feb. 21. A website that was previously listed for the books at: www.putnamhistory.com was not working over the weekend. In an advertisement, Hopson said that she could be reached at 750 E. Hudgens St., Cookeville, TN or at phone number: 931-520-1935 about her current book

Hi Jeanette, You are so right about Arabella or Belle as we called her. She was my granny. Zeda was her mother and apparently her father was married. As you can imagine way back then that just didn't happen. They say that they kept Belle in the house until she was about ten yrs. old. Celina and Moses raised her like their own daughter. Do you have the article about Arkley being the oldest confederate soldier? I have it if you don't. I don't live in Tennessee. Grew up in Ky. and live in Florida now. I visited Overton County about four yrs ago. It hadn't changed much since I used to go there when I was a kid. No, Jeanette, I don't live in Tennessee, but I would love for you to come visit Southern Illinois. I could show you around. I remember conversing with you much earlier. I would love to get going again with what we can share with each other. My life is so busy, but I am ready anyway. Thanks for answering! Hello to Velda, Betty, Susan, Frank and Jean! And, others interested in our line. Yes, isn't this a great way to bump into long lost "cousins". I am from the Christian branch - via George and Celina. My great grandfather, Arkley Fisk, was a brother to George Worth. I had always read that Arabella (Arabela) was not a sister but a niece? Daughter of Zeda Ann who was a sister? I would love to pursue any family ties we have - do any of you live in Tennessee?
