Hello, Could someone do a marriage look up for me I know they were married between 1865 and 1875 a Joseph Wooldridge-Woolridge and Rebecca or Micky. Thank you, Barbara eor@saber.net
Once again, does anyone have any information on the Mark Piles in the 1860 Overton Co., Census, living next to John Hamilton, Hilham post Office? Tom Johnson, researching Howard, Hamilton, Smith, Marcum, Sells, Harris, Morrow, Brady, Ferrell, Stover, Daugherty, etc. in Overton County and thereabouts.
Cleston Let me check on this tonight and if it is where I can send it to you via email I will that is if I have the death record or obituary I will. I am having trouble with blood clots and not getting to do a lot right now although I will get back with you either way if I don't have it or if I do. Joseph Garrott (Sr) b. 1788/89 was s/o Stephen Garrott of Buckingham Co., VA. Stephen was in Buckingham County from abt 1773 til his death in abt 1803. Because of his place of residence in Buckingham his children born in this time frame were most likely born in Buckingham Co., VA including Joseph b. 1788/89. I'm not sure abt Loderick being born in Campbell Co., VA. Since he is likely the s/o Joshua, I think he was born in Buckingham Co. Joshua is in 1810 Buckingham, but Loderick is not yet born. 1810 Buckingham VA 2 males b. 1784-1794: Joseph b. 1788/89 the other unkown 1 male b. 1794-1800: David b. 1798 2 males b. 1800-1810: Joshua Jr b. 1802/03 Creed b. 1803/04 2 females b. 1800-1810: unknown Elijah Garrott moved from Buckingham to Campbell Co. in Dec 1806. If Loderick was s/o Elijah, then Loderick would have been born in Campbell. But I do not think he is s/o Elijah. 1810 Campbell VA 1 male b. 1784-1800: Abraham b. 1800 3 males b. 1800-1810: Stephen b. 1802 Elijah b 1806 Shadrack b. 1809 3 daughter b. 1800-1810: Mary b.1804 Julian b. 1805 Loderick apparently was born shortly after the census was taken in abt 1810/1811. -----Original Message----- From: Louannel@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2007 4:51 PM To: tnoverto@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNOVERTO] Joseph Garrett J Roots: I am a relative newcomer to the research on this family, but I can tell you from what research I've done, the research of others that I've read, and the feedback I've gotten from others in this group that there are few definitive answers yet about the connections between the first & second generations of Overton Co Garretts. I found an 1848 court record recently I hoped would help, but it wasn't one of the Garrett Patriarchs. If you know anyone looking for info on Joshua the younger, though, it's there. BUT, your email raises several important questions that point us all to new areas of research. You say Joseph Garrett b 1814 married Polly Brown (I assume from Overton Co?), then moved to Wayne Co KY btw 1850-1860. This is interesting for two reasons: 1. I am a descendant of Creed Garrett thru his dau Emila ("Kitty") b 1835 who married Wm Cox bef 7 Sep 1850. They are living next door to Creed on the 1850 census. But in 1860 Wm & son Charley b 1852 are living with Wm's mother in - guess where? Wayne Co KY. Just 3 doors down is "Abram" Garrett, age 45 & b TN. I thought that was quite a coincidence when I first saw it, but now that you say your Garrett ancestor moved there at maybe the exact same time, it REALLY makes me wonder who else is there and why. 2. How do you know Polly's name is Brown? Have you found any records of her family? The reason I ask is that I have seen a record that states that "Brown" was the maiden name of Mariah Garrett (Creed's wife). This could very well be wrong, but I've been looking for a Brown family to appear in this mix and there it was - in your email. 3. Last, what is our source for Joseph the elder being born in Buckingtham Co VA? I saw the other day that Loderck was born in Campbell Co VA. I'm assuming that there is a miilitary pension record somewhere that backs up these staements. I was thinking about starting a Overton Co Garrett family website for us to easily share info and contribute copies of new things we find. Anyone interested? Joseph Garrott (b. 1788) of 1820 Overton was s/o Joshua Garrott (Sr) b. 1768. 1810 Buckingham VA lists Joshua Garrott with 2 male b. 1784-1794. One of these is likely Joseph b. 1788/89. The other I have yet to identify. Th other male b. 1794-1800 is likely David b. 1798 who shows up in 1820 Overton. 2 males b. 1800-1810 are likely Joshua Jr & Creed.
Ron - do you have any information about the Rileys or Winninghams? My great grandfather is Amos Riley and he married Cyntha Winningham. My grandfather is Benjamin Riley, married Minnie Smith. Her grandparents were also from Overton County. My line of Rileys is: James Riley B. abt. 1751-1760 (70-79 in 1830 census) - we think in Virginia (reported by Robert Riley to be June 8, 1763.) D. abt .1833 (after will dated 1833) - in Overton County, TN Elizabeth Riley B. 1771 to 1780 (I lean toward 1780) (40-49 in 1830 census, 60-70 yrs old in 1840, not on 1850 census) My guess: 49 in 1830 and 60 in 1840 D. between 1840-1850 (before 1850 census) in Overton County, TN (Children) 1. Joseph Riley (abt. 1798) – age 52 in 1850 -- age 30-40 in 1840 born in N.C. (All the other children were born in TN) 2. Isaac Riley (??? Possibly around 1800 – 30-39 in 1830) 3. Daughter (perhaps Elizabeth) Riley ( ??? possibly around 1804 – 20-29 in 1830) 4. Daughter (?? – 15-19 in 1830) 5. John Riley (abt 1802 – 15-19 in 1830) 6. James Riley (?? – 15-19 in 1830) 7. Amos Riley (5 Sep 1821 – age 29 in 1850) 8. Thomas Riley (28 in 1850) I've been reading all of the notes looking for family and you sound so knowledgeable about the area, I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any info you or anyone else might have. Wanda Gant
Carrie - Polly Brown is not my line, Mariah Brown (maybe) is. Like you, I'm hoping to find someone in this group who has actual records of the early Browns in Overton Co. There were 10 Brown HHs on the 1820 Overton Co Census and most had young women in them (one had 4!) Also, for what it's worth, on Ancestry.com people list the following birth info for Browns b Overton Co. I didn't look at any trees to see if there was more info since I didn't see my person. Ancestry member postings aren't reliable, of course, BUT I have gotten good hints from looking at what people post there. Mary b 1814 dau Josiah Eliza A b 1813 dau John Lucinda Kisiah b 1805 dau Daniel Wm b 1812 Richard b 1814 Sarah M b 1816 dau Wm Joseph b 1816 Sarah E b 1799 dau John Hannah 1822 Next time I'm in Livingston I'll check the old books for cases/wills/deeds that may list early Brown Families. Let me know if you run across anything interesting and I'll do the same. Louanne **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Ronald - Thanks for the info. Do you have Analisa's death certificate? Was she the longest living of Creed's children? I was wondering if anyone else listed "Brown" as Mariah's maiden name.
