Good Morning.... I'm also searching for Langfords...I believe that Malinda dau of Jack & Polly was married to my GG Grandfather Fielding Smith...He did marry a Malinda of the same age & b. TN ...& the Langfords lived very close to the Smiths in Overton Co..But I have no verification... Our family believes to have a Cherokee connection & Malinda's mother Mary Polly Crane would account for this...Glad to share any info that I have...Russ Smith ----- Original Message ----- From: "D&R" <dcran41266@comcast.net> To: <tnoverto@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 5:59 PM Subject: Re: [TNOVERTO] LANGFORD >I am trying to compile a brief lineage on the John (Jack) Langford family >who lived in Overton County from about 1830 up ward. > I feel very sure their still descendents of that family in that area. > This John served in the War of 1812- his widow Polly Langford filed for a > pension off her husbands service. > They were married perhaps before or shortly after the War of 1812. I am trying to compile a brief lineage on the John (Jack) Langford family who lived in Overton County from about 1830 up ward. I feel very sure their still descendents of that family in that area. This John served in the War of 1812- his widow Polly Langford filed for a pension off her husbands service. They were married perhaps before or shortly after the War of 1812. This John List his birth place in S.C... I have hunted for him in S.C. almost under every rock and climbed every tree..and NO John, in the Time period found in South Carolina.. 1785-1820.. Found a few john's but when i ran them down. could not have been this John. A simple clue might shed some light. That i do not have right now. I would love to correspond with anyone who has or is researching that lineage.. Rose C
Jays Flatt is also called McDonald's Chapel it is located on the East Port Boat Dock road. That is off highway 111. There is no cemetery there but there are a lot of Newberry's burried in the cemeterys around there. I asked a lady who is one of my clients and she said there were a lot of Leas and Newberrys buried in the cemeteries around there. I am a bit more interested din your family? As i do have a bit of data on Overton County, There also is a History book at the Livingston, Overton County Library in Livingston TN."History of Overton County" Some time in the past a group of family historians got together and compiled a short history of their families. the book was in its 3rd printing in about 2001. I don't know if they reprinted it since then. there also a Book called "Overton Roll call" which list names of people who have passed and where their final resting place is in Overton County. (kind of like a cemetery/name Index. I do not have a copy,) Look forward to hearing form you. Rose C I have Eli Langford married to a Amanda Brown, in Overton/Clay County TN. Do not know if there is a connection or not. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alice E. Elijah was listed in the Hilham post office district in the 1860 census. There are two neighboring households that are Browns. I've had some hint from something I found on Rootsweb site a few years ago, that Nathaniel Brown might be his father. Sometime between 1867 and 1870, Elijah moved his family to Van Buren County Arkansas. I'd be very interested to know what happened to his farm in Overton County. Where was it located? Did any of his family stay in the area or did they scatter westward? There might be a connection between your Ellender and my Browns, I just don't know what it is. My Elijah had only one son, William Arkley, born in 1859 in Overton County. His three daughters were Altamira, Sarah, and Lucy. Bear in mind, there were a lot of Elijah Browns in Tennessee about this time.
