I am looking for any photos of William Cherry Peek and Delia Ann Bilbrey. William Cherry Peek was born abt 1864 in Tennessee and died 1941 in Overton, Tennessee. He was the son of John W. Peek, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Gibbons. Delia Ann Bilbrey was born August 1865 in Tennessee and died February 10, 1953 in Tennessee. She was the daughter of Richard Bilbrey and Martha Nancy Cannon. Any photos of their ancestors would also be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to reimburse any and all costs. Thanks, Leslie Webb McKusker
I am trying to find out about 3rd great grandmother, Elizabeth Ferrell and her daughter, Elizabeth Ferrell. I have her listed as being Elizabeth Jane Sullivan prior to her marriage? Is this correct and any proof? My 3rd great grandmother was born April 7, 1806 in North Carolina and died after the 1880 census. She was listed in 1880 as living in Overton County. Does anyone know when she may have died and where she was buried? Would there be an obituary for her? Daughter, Elizabeth was born about 1839 and I have heard that she died in 1891? Does anyone know anything about her? Where was she buried? Any help on these Ferrell's would be wonderful. James Elias Ferrell was born June 20, 1802 in Tennessee and died in Overton County in 1856. I am a descendant of their daughter, Permelia Caroline Ferrell who was born June 17, 1840 in Tennessee, married William Anderson Gunnels about 1858 in Overton County and died March 11, 1918 in Causey, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. William Anderson Gunnels was born between 1838 and 1840 in Overton County. Any help would be greatly appreciated in advance. Take care and have a great day. Jo Ann Clark Lufkin, Texas
Hello Everyone, I have been searching for our Tennessee patriarch, Peter Arney. He was born in Tryon (now Lincoln) County, NC in 1772 and arrived in Tennessee around 1799. He purchased 300 acres of land from John Sevier near the Obey River and Wolf River. In searching for DTP (Definitive Tangible Proof) of Peter Arney's existence, I have been trying to locate the land he purchased. I have a copy of the land purchase but it does not get very specific. Well, it is very specific as it outlines the lands, using "poles" and trees as points of reference. This makes it very hard to pinpoint it's location. The creating of Dale Hollow Lake made this task much more difficult because Peter' original land purchase could be completely submersed in Dale Hollow Lake. Knowing that Peter Arney died in what was Overton County, TN at that time, gave me a general start. Knowing that the land was included in different counties at different times. This narrowed the search to Clay, Pickett, and Overton Counties in Tennessee. Knowing some points of interest over the years helped as well. His land purchase was near the Obey River and that some of his descendants lived near the mouth of the Wolf River also narrowed it down. When Dale Hollow Lake was created, the Corps of Engineers purchased lots of land in Tennessee, not all of this land was used for Dale Hollow Lake. Also, I received an email from someone a few years ago, that stated the person had found existing land of Peter Arney's. The person said that the land was not accessible by road, but by boat only. The person did not state which lake, because he/she could not remember, but if it was Dale Hollow Lake you would think they would have clearly stated that. I believe I have, by deductive reasoning, etc. found the land (of Peter Arney's) that still exists today. A special thanks to Darren Shell, who has written several books on Dale Hollow Lake, who helped me to narrow down the possibilities. I believe that the piece of Peter Arney's land that still exists is County Line Island, which sits interestingly enough smack dab between Clay and Pickett Counties in Tennessee. This fits perfectly for several reasons. We know that Peter Arney died in Overton County, TN in 1845. We know he was in Smith County in 1799, he was in Jackson County in 1802, and he died in Overton County. His children and descendants remained in Clay and Pickett Counties (plus other counties in Tennessee as well) and many still do today. Over the years, as counties were created, his land was in different counties but did not move obviously. I do not live in Tennessee, so it's impossible for me to travel to County Line Island, at this time. Please, tell me what you think about this issue? After all, one of our Arney "holy grails" is to find Peter Arney's land. Now to find a map that shows County Line Island in great detail. More later, Stan Arney Wichita, KS
Well we have a new awaking. Benjamin Langford in Pope County Ark. tested to match your Rufus Wiley and so did John (Jack) Langford who was there in Overton county. We also located the Will for Henry Langford who died 1794. Tried to read it on film, it was impossible, next best thing another researcher from another line who lives with in 75 miles of the court house in Greenville S.C. is going to drive down and transcribe from the original Will. Will do this when he ahs time, might be a few weeks. Meanwhile I am working with two people of the Rufus lineage & two off the John (jack) Langford line. The person who tested for Benjamin was a descendant who came from Benjamin son Milton Hazelton Langford that line is the Langford of Bandera Texas. They have web site. If you would like I may put you in contact with the others who are working on this project. Just tell me it is O.K> I never release emails without permission... personal thing of mine.. I do not care who has mine however. Please let me know. there is also a gentleman who descends from a Berry Langford that may be connected in some way. You all are such awesome researchers'! Let me know and I will send out a email to you all and then you should be connected to email amongst your self's. what a team effort! I am going to put out some census data from Pendleton District and Greenville County South Carolina about Langford-Lankford. The surname is correctly spelled both ways, depending on the era and who wrote it.. Always dealing with that upper North-west corner of South Carolina. ( S.C. has some very good maps on line showing how the county/district line changed through the years. Interesting! Greenville County S.C 1790 Robert Langford is listed with 3 males over the age of 16 years-- Which put all 3 born before 1774. 5 free white males under 16 years age. So between 1774 and 1790- is 16 years- he had 5 sons born. and he had three females Go 10 years forward to 1800 Census ROBERT LANKFORD Is still in Greenville County he now as: one male under the age of 10 Born 1790-1800 1 male between 10 to 15 years of age Born 1785-1790 3 males between the age of 16 and 25 years Born between 1774 & 1784 there are zero for between 26 and 44 years of age ONE male over the age of 44 years.. I would guess this is ROBERT LANGFORD him self He was born before 1756 location unknown and if he had his first child about 1774 that would be born ca 1750-1756. or before. One female between 10 and 15 years of age born between 1785 and 1790 One female over the age of 45 years My guess is this was his wife. Now I Understand this Roberts wife was Martha. I have that some place on a land deed. Greenville county, S.C. In Overton county Tn in the mid 1800's a Robert Langford born ca 1797 S.C. lived there a short time., he could be the youngest child listed here. or was it Rufus Wiley? What happen to all these sons.? The other person Was Eli Lankford who was listed on the 1790 census , which is the lineage I descend from. , he had one male over the age of 16 which woudlbe Eli Langford himself I can name 4 of the 5 males under the age of 16 that Eli sr had 1Matthew born 1775 in now Henry Co VA. 2Eli Langford jr born 1779 in Lincoln Co NC 3 Josiah Langford born ca 178 in S.C. 4. Stephen born 1789 in S.C. 5th one remains a mystery & I think must have passed away young. He also had a daughter Lavina who married John Edens. and two unknown daughter By 1800 Matthew was married and had a son. Eli JR was married to Mary Eden's in 1800 and Josiah was still with is father as was Stephen, and James was born 1797 in S.C. Lavina was living at home but was married din 1801, there are two unknown daughters. ---------------------------------------------------------- there are other Langford-Lankford males in the 1800 census in taht S.C. area. another email I will cover those. PLEASE Look at he age your ancestor would have been in 1790 and again in 1800 and see if they fit? Doesn't make it true, but if they do not at al fit in the age then you know for sure that isn't it. Hope that help especially when you on in the dark and do not have a clue.. Rose C

John Langford who married Martha (Patsy Duke) in Warren County North Carolina are not the parents. John died in about 1823 in Warren county,N.C. and was Never any where else his whole life, His family came form Lunenburg co VA. and now well researched. I can send more data on that if anyone request it. I also copied the book ( Virginia's Langford book) and then wanted to know who the parents of this John were, , but after I ran into the Will of John Langford of Warren county and none of the sons name were mentioned I knew I had been climbing the wrong tree.............., then I knew that part of the book's research as faulty. That has now been 4 years,,,We descend from James Langford and Mary Polly Holman in Jackson County TN. Now to the job on hand. Rufus Wiley Langford born 1800 in S.C. shows in 1830 census in Overton Co. and John (jack) Langford born ca 1788/9 in S.C. and 1830 census in Overton County are related. Brother unknown (?) but both DNA tested to be from the same lineage in a DNA. That is as far back as it is. there are several possible families that were in SC at that time. In Jackson Co there was Stephen James Langford both son of Eli Langford Sr also from S.C. ( both from the same area,in South Carolina , but not related to John (jack) or Rufus Wiley Langford of Overton County TN. Not at all ---DNA test. They all ( Langford's- Lankford s) seemed to have appeared in upper North Western South Carolina after the Rev. War. which was a time America was on the move. Another time we may discuss where they may have come from. But right now, it is to find out who John and Rufus parents were.? Who were their other siblings,? ( John born 1788-9 and Rufus W born 1800 put the chance there were children born in those 11-12 years, who were they? Was John the oldest or did he have older siblings? Leander Langford who also was born in S.C (1850 Census Pope Co Ark. list him as 66 years of age ( he would have been born 1786 in S.C.) This Leander Langford served in the same unit as John (Jack) in the War of 1812, were they related? Again several possible choice of men born/ lived in that part of South Carolina. Now the real work starts, ALL HELP NEEDED. We have to go back 200 years in those Mountains of North western South Carolina and find the records and piece the families back together. Too many questions.( I am good at that.) (Grin) By the way from 1800 up the book of Virginia's is really almost right on, consider she wrote the book in 1979( I think?) before cyberspace, it is a wonderful book. Her book make life so much easier when I had finally traced my family back to TN, even if it had faults in it. I had names and ideas of who the various Langford belong to and etc in Jackson and Overton Counties.. too bad there isn't a road map like it for South Carolina. Guess we will make our own but we will cite sources. and 50 years from now someone else can come along and correct it! It appears to put Rufus Wiley ( born 1800 S.C) and John (Jack) Langford(B 1788 S.C.) from the same father.. this match is DNA tested. Now the question is who is the father?. But open the file. that looks like James Murphy's work...? Rufus and John both show first 1830 in Overton county. I need to go back and look at the first and second generation of Rufus for given names. Here I see the first child of John and his wife as "Champion.". bring s up another question was the Champion who was in S.C. era 1800 the father.? We are getting somewhere!! We have two brothers Stephen born 1789 S.C. and James born 1797 S.C. in Jackson Co brothers, proven son of Eli Langford Sr ( born ca 1740-45 location unknown) who first appeared in 1784 in that North west corner of South Carolina. Pendleton District. Eli Sr. purchased land first in Jackson County TN in 1812 with his son Stephen. It appears that Eli sr, Stephen and son James did not move there till 1814. Stephen and James are listed as Lankford on the 1820 census in James household there is a male over 45 years of age. it is Not Mary Polly (Holman) Langford's father so it most likely is Eli Sr. who is probably deceased by 1830 as the man is not listed on any of his sons census. The next county over in Overton County TN., in the 1830 Census we have Rufus Wiley Langford born 1800 S.C. and John (Jack) Langford as brothers/ cousins?. There is DNA match there! Which in no-way matches the DNA of the two in Jackson County TN. Not even close family yet all came from t he same area of South Carolina. I am going to go back to the early Census for S.C. and review those, perhaps there is a clue there. On the DNA testing it is only as good as the research leading back to that earliest ancestor.. We will certainly know very shortly if they descend from Henry Langford who died 1794 in Greenville S.C. We were able to locate his Will. Because of its condition , it has been sent to a professional archivist who read those.. and restores them and etc. , I think more and more .. Henry is ..NOT. BUT WHO? Wish I knew. It is going to take much more research. But we can do that.. All help needed.. every little clue helps!! Thank you Each little proven step is a step in the right direction.. Rose CO

I am looking for photographs of Arneys, more specifically my branch of the Arneys. My branch of the Arney's arrived in Tennessee around 1799, with the patriarch Peter Arney. Peter Arney was born in Lincoln County, NC in 1772 (his father was Jacob Arney and his brother was Christian Arney, Sr.). My direct branch goes as follows: Peter Arney - Matthew Arney, Sr. - William Ervin Arney - Otha Jouett Arney - Stanley Goble Arney - Jerry Kenneth Arney, Sr. I would like to have more than just their name, date of birth, and date of death. I would like to have more than just a picture of a tombstone. I would prefer to have an actual photograph of each Arney, if one still exists. If not an actual photograph of the person, then a photo of some object that was theirs, like a Bible, a diary, a tool, something they made with their own hands, etc. I have been blessed to have received photos of Matthew Arney, Sr. and Otha Jouett Arney, but I will certainly accept more if you are willing to share. Also, the photographs I seek are not just of these men, but of any of their kin (wives, parents, siblings, children, etc.). If you have photographs of Arney's that you are willing to share, please let me know. If you do not have a way to scan them, maybe you could postal mail the photo to me, I would scan it, then return the photo to you, A.S.A.P. I realize this is asking a lot, for you to share your family treasures, but I pray you will. Thank you for listening, take care and God bless, Stan Arney Wichita, KS
I think this would be woulderful if we could setup a database on yahoogroups for the photos for everyone to see. Pam **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. (http://www.fanhouse.com/fantasyaffair?ncid=aolspr00050000000020)
