There is a Hampton - Lee Cemetery at Beaver Hill in Overton County. There are Hamptons buried there along with an Irish immigrant or two. The site is at the Junction of Highway 293 and Highway 84. Hi Gary, Some years ago I had read a historical fiction book which mentioned them. Then a few weeks ago I went to a book on line that had a lot of a woman's ancestors. One of the lines was Earp/Harp and near the end of that section was information gathered about those men. Apparently they operated during the Rev. War and around Nashville TN and other places. As far as I could tell with dates, etc. they were not connected to the ones that settled in Overton Co. I am interested in what you know about these men. Norris -----Original Message----- From: Deanna and Glen [SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2003 11:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [TNOVERTO] Williams Hi, Thank you for your reply. Yes, this may be the same Samson Williams. I have an ancestor, Rebecca Earp (possibly Harp)who was born 1798 in NC and married Elijah Pile in Overton Co. around 1814. I would like to find her parents' names. I see that there were several Harp families living in Overton Co. during this time and think that she may be the daughter of one of them. There may be a connection to Samson Williams as one of the Harps was named Samson Harp. William Harp Sr. acquired land from Samson Williams - I believe before 1811. Do you know if any wills exist from this early time or were they destroyed in the courthouse fire of 1865? I would like to get a will of both William Harp, Sr. and Samson Williams. It is interesting that you have the deed record from 1817. I recently received the Fentress Co. Historical Society Newsletter and on page 58 there is an article on Moses Fisk. I don't know the truth of the matter. The Oxendines of Overton County must have had some slaves. One of the ex-slaves was buried at the Campground Cemetery in Overton County. I think his name was Levi as I remember. I do believe the master died down in Corinth, Mississippi from swamp fever if I remember correctly. Gary D. Hello, Is anyone researching or have information on Nancy (Cheatham) Hampton, who was censused in Overton County, TN in 1830? She was my 3rd great grandmother. Nancy was born in Halifax County, VA. She married Ahab Hampton in 1791, Halifax County, VA. Nancy was aged 26-45 in the 1800 Buncombe County, NC census where she and Ahab were living; this would mean that she was born sometime between 1755 and 1774. Some have placed her birthdate about 1771, but I think she was probably born ca. 1765. In the 1810 census of Buncombe County, Ahab and Nancy were not listed. Ahab died sometime between 1810 and 1820. Nancy was living in Buncombe County, NC in 1820 near Lent Hampton, her son, and Micajah Hampton, Ahab's father In the 1830 census of Overton County, TN Nancy Hampton gave her age as between 70 and 80 years. Also living in her household were 2 males between 15 and 20 and 1 male between 20 and 30. I have no information on her after this census. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on her or any of her descendants. Thanks, Glenna Prather 330 Cynisca Waxahachie, TX 75165
Hi, Thank you for your reply. Part reads ".......The act of the General Assembly incorporating Fisk Female Academy recited, "that Moses Fisk and Sampson Williams are willing to contribute one thousand acres of land each toward the endowment of a female academy...." I have information on the Rich family as I am almost positive that I am connected to them also. Is there some info. you need? I can check my file. I also have some info. on Dentons. Try Rome for the spelling. There are some Romes on Family Search born in TN. but living in Mo. I typed in Job Rome and they came up. Probably not what you are looking for, but maybe a clue. The 1860 census has a Roam family with an Elizabeth at 3 yrs. old if I rem correctly. Go to the Overton Co. page and the 1860 census link. Page 281B, househould 548.

Harold & Doug, I do not have any of that information on Joel Perry Windle. I will be glad to give you credit for any information you might share for publication. That is the only way I can hope to bring together the pictures and manuscripts to make the book a hit. I am now working on an old store ledger from the 1870's. Alfred Lafayette Windle bought up people's debts at a local store. I am not sure what he got from them in exchange, but he seemed to have control of lots of capital. Gary D. Norris > From: "N. I have books on many of the Union prison camps. The death rates in them were higher than at the southern camps. I did not think "Andersonville" gave an equal view to the other side of the coin. There was cruelty enough and blame for many. Gary D.
