Gary, Thanks for that information. I have not found any clues to military service yet. I have seen no record of pension application from either William or his wife. There was a William M. CARR that enlisted from White county in 1st Battalion, Tennessee Infantry (Colms') and another that enlisted from Knoxville in the 9th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry. I think that it is unlikely that Knoxville would be a possibility but White Co. while a short distance might be a stretch also. Thanks again Billy D. Billy, I am going to make some pure guesses based upon what killed many Civil War vets a few years after the war. Take you pick. You might try to see about a pension record on him. His wife may have filed. Here are my guesses. (1) a festering wound with part of the uniform or wood inside the body (2) chronic dyssentery with a mixture of typhoid and malaria (3) Klan violence (4) rheumatism caused by exposure during the war Gary D. My grandfather was James Copeland CARR. He was the son of Robert CARR and Sibbie LEDBETTER and was born 5-18-1894 in Overton Co., TN. He married Noveline Bledsoe around 1930. They were divorced sometime in the 40's and he died 6-22-1954 a little more than a year before I was born. I know that for a time they lived in Detroit, MI but I don't know much more about him. He was buried in a Copeland cemetery outside of Livingston Here is a link to a picture of him: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/a/r/Billy-D-Carr/PHOTO/0001phot o.html Here is a link to pictures of the cemetery he is buried in: http://home.neo.rr.com/billyc/james-copeland-carr.htm http://home.neo.rr.com/billyc/Copeland.html I am looking for any kind of information about my grandfather. Does anyone have any knowledge of him? Also, I am looking for anything about his grandfather William M. "Billy" CARR. William was the son of Thomas and Rebecca CARR and was married to Eliza Jane COPELAND Carr. William was born in 1828 and died in 1868. He was so young and I wondered if someone had knowledge of how he died. I have not found any Civil War record of his service but wonder if his early death was related to injuries or illness from possible service in the war. Eliza Jane and William are buried in the same cemetery as James. Thanks Billy D. Gary, The Maynors of Jackson County just might be part of our group. Several branches left Overton for other counties and states. We are now in the process of chasing them down. We would be glad to work with you in identifying Civil War soldiers. We have identified some soldiers but have not verified the information. This is something we are working on. Thanks Guille

Rod & Guille, I was wondering if the Maynor families of the Jackson County areas were also kin? Back to you in a few minutes and see if you can help identify Civil War soldiers of your line. Gary D. We have matched, verifying 99% of the Mainord/Mainard/Maynard/Maynord/Mainyard family in Overton County. We have been able to place everyone in the correct family and have been able to verified most with census, cemetery records, wills and deeds. (We are still working on wills and deeds). There are a couple that we can't place due to nicknames used. We used the book "Overton County TN Roll Call" by Gary Norris (hope I got the title right) and have placed 98% of the Mainords in the book with the correct family. If anyone out there is doing Mainords, I would appreciate help in finding "Void's" (Mainord) proper name. He shows up in Gary's book but I can't place him with any family. Thanks Rod & Guille
I know the men were notorious highway men who operated on the Natchez Trace between Nashville and Natchez, Mississippi. That was an early trade route for goods. The Big and Little Harp robbed the travelers and usually killed them. There were few eye-witnesses to ever identify them. The law finally caught up to them and killed them in most gruesome means. The heads were severed and put upon a pike for everyone to see. Gary D. Then a few weeks ago I went to a book on line that had a lot of a woman's ancestors. One of the lines was Earp/Harp and near the end of that section was information gathered about those men. Apparently they operated during the Rev. War and around Nashville TN and other places. As far as I could tell with dates, etc. they were not connected to the ones that settled in Overton Co. Gary and all, Jack Ferguson's book, EARLY TIMES IN CLINTON COUNTY (KY), Vol. I, has an interesting story about the HARP brothers, "Big Harp" and "Little Harp. My copy is not indexed so I can't give a page number. They were terrorizing the Green County area of early TN at the time. I believe the land that became Overton may have been in Green County at the time. He said their father had been a Tory during the Revolutionary War and that after the British failed the HARP family probably was subject to hard times and a lot of persecution that warped the HARP boys. Anna BERTRAM [email protected]
Thanks for the tip about the story in "Early Times...". I checked but I have Vol.II, not Vol.I. Hi Gary, Thanks for the information. Is Rickman around the area of Mill Creek? The reason I ask is that Harp deeds list Mill Creek. In looking over the files on Harps I noticed that the ones that could be of the Rev. War era and living in Overton were living and had children long after the one Harp was killed for his evil deeds. So I don't think they were the same family. However, I will keep in mind what the lady said. The fellow I talked to a year or so ago said the Oxendines were descended from the Lumbee Indians of South Carolina. He also mentioned the Mulegeon connection as a possibility. I do believe the Harps were brothers who operated on the Natchez Trace between Nashville and Natchez. They were robbers and murderers. Finally they were killed by a posse. I was told by an old lady that the Harps were distantly connected to the Harps from around Rickman. I kept my mouth shut on that, but not that the lady has died I might mention it to you only as a hint for your research. Gary D.
