I'm still looking for the parents of Isaac Johnson of Granville County, N.C., and I still believe your family tree may yet bring me to the answers about Isaac Johnson's past. Here are a couple of bits and pieces that apply to the Benjamin Johnson family, found on my research road. I'm assuming that this first reference is your Benjamin, and it fits with your comment, Diane, that Benjamin's father was also named Benjamin. From WARREN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, Minutes to the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, 1801-1805, by Ginger L. Christmas-Beattie, p. 163, Dated Monday, November 25th 1805, "Administration of the Estate of Benjamin Johnson, deceased, is granted to Marmaduke Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, the elder son of the deceased, being in Court and thereto consenting, the said Administrator enters into bond for that purpose with Joseph Hawkins, his Security in the Sum of 2,000 pounds, and qualified accordingly." Dated Tuesday, November 26th, 1805 "Ordered that the Administrator of Benjamin Johnson, deceased, sell the perishable Estate of the deceased, or as much thereof as will pay the debts, at not less than 6 months credit." "Ordered that Buckner Davis be appointed Guardian to Francis C. Johnson, orphan of Benjamin Johnson, deceased, who enters into bond for that purpose with Marmaduke Johnson, his Security in the sum of 500 pounds." Warren County was formed from a part of Granville County. Another tidbit: from the book, GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION FILES, Vol. I: A-E, Abstracted by Virgin D. White, The National Historical Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tennessee, 1990, p. 310, "BOBBIT, William or William Bobbitt, Susannah, W9740, NC Line, sol m Sukie James in May 1784 & a George James signed the marriage bond in Warren Cty NC, wid appl 18 Nov 1840 Chester Dist SC aged 74, sol d 12 Nov 1839, sol had appl 24 Nov 1832 Chester Dist SC aged 71, sol was b 1761 in Warren Cty NC & after the war lived in NC 14 yrs then moved to SC." Also, "BOBBITT, Isham or Isham Bobbet, Elizabeth W24709, NC Line, sol appl 3 Sep 1832 Morgan Cty IL aged 78, enl in Warren Cty NC, sol was b 3 May 1754 Granville (that part which later became Warren Cty) Cty NC, sol & wid m 13 Oct 1774 or 75 about 25 miles from Halifax NC, wid appl 10 Jul 1840 Morgan Cty IL aged 84, children shown were: Winny, William, Allen (both William & Allen were dec'd in 1840), Stephen the 4th child b 21 Nov 1779 of Pike Cty IL in 1840, Fanny, Anny or Anna, Isham or Isom, Salley, Elizabeth & Nancy, a son-in-law lived Morgan Cty IL in 1841 (his wife not named in file)." Also, GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS OF REVOLUTONARY WAR PENSION FILES, VOL. II, p. 1852, "JOHNSON, Joseph, S7085, NC Line, sol was b in 1763 in Bute Co now Warren Co NC & he lived there at enl & he appl there 29 Aug 1833 but was of Halifax Co NC." This Joseph Johnson was a bachelor, never married, Joseph Johnson and Benjamin Johnson and William Bobbit are all listed in the EPPING FOREST DISTRICT of Granville County, N.C., in the 1790 North Carolina Census. Hi, I am new to this list. I am searching for any information on: William Elzie Fowler m. Gladys Rose Reynolds son: Edward Fowler Can anyone help?
I'm one of a group of people interested in tracing the descendants of James & Isabel (Hinson) Yelton of Stafford County, VA. One of their grandsons, Charles H. Yelton, settled in Overton County in the 1840s. Charles married Susannah Rogers in Amherst County, VA on 16 Aug 1805, and they lived in Iredell Co and Ashe Co, NC before moving to Tennessee. While I'm not descended from Charles (I'm descended from his brother John, who remained in North Carolina), I'm very interested in tracing Charles' family. If anyone is researching any of the following, I would love to exchange information with you: 1. William James Yelton, m. Edy C. (lived in Wilkes Co, NC) 2. Lydia Yelton, m. John Norris (lived in Overton Co) 3. Barnet Yelton, m. Mary Ellen Ford (Barnet died shortly after the family moved to Overton Co (1844-1847), and his widow took most of their children back to NC. However, I believe their oldest son, William R., remained in Overton Co until after the Civil War, when he and his family moved to Missouri.) 4. Sarah Yelton, m. Wilburn Swift (living in Overton Co in 1880; not sure where they were between 1840 and 1880, as I can't find them in the censuses) 5. Charles Louis Yelton, m. (1) Edith Norris (sister of the John Norris who married Lydia Yelton), (2) Margaret L. Copeland (lived in Overton Co) 6. John Pinkney Yelton, m. Mary (Polly) Lea (in Overton Co in 1850, Putnam Co in 1860, Smith Co in 1880; Macon Co in 1911) 7. Benjamin Yelton (d. in Overton Co, Aug 1849) 8. Mary Yelton (b. 15 Nov 1828, no further info) 9. Wilburn S. Yelton, m. Jemima Wilmoth (lived in Overton Co) I have more information, not to mention questions, on most of these families, but it's way too much for one e-mail. If you are interested in any of these, please let me hear from you. You might also want to take a look at our website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yelton/ Cheryl Chasin [email protected]

Seeking information on the family of John P. Kirby/Kerby b. ca. 1804 N.C. married to a Elizabeth Bailey. I believe the Kirby/Kerby family was in Overton Co., TN. in the 1800's and then moved to White Co., TN. 1840s-50s. There are several Kerbys on the 1830 census-William Kerby- & William Kerby,Jr.-John Kerby, Sr.-Jesse Kerby, Richard Kerby, Sr.-Andrew Kerby, Jr. and on the 1840 census-John Kerby, Jr. & John Kirby, Jr.-Rueben Kirby. It has been suggest that my John P. Kirby/Kerby's middle name might be Porter and maybe relatived to a Sarah Kerby who was married to a George Lewis from Wilkes Co., N.C. Sarah had two known brothers John & William. John was married to a Sinthey (Cynthia) Smith in Wilkes Co., N.C. in 1794. Sarah & her husband came to Overton Co., Tn. ca. 1812. They also had a son, John Porter Lewis. Would anyone have any information on the Kerby/Kirby families of Overton Co., TN. Cindy Kirby White Texas

My GGM, Amanda Belle (Davis) Abston was born 2/17/1860 at Monroe, OvertonCo.,TN., the daughter of Nelson and Ruth Vertner (Windle) Davis. Supposedly she was the third of 3 children, with a brother, William born 1854 at Monroe and a sister, Mary Catherine born Nov. 1858 at Monroe and who subsequently married Tom Colson of Monroe. However the 1850 Overton Co. census shows Nelson Davis and wife Ruth, ages 44 and 31 with a Joseph Davis, age 14 living with them. Based upon the ages of Nelson and Ruth it is logical that Joseph is also a son; ie - Nelson would have been 30 and Ruth 17 at time of his birth. Joseph would have been 24 in 1860 census and is not with the family then so do not know if he was dead or moved out on his own. Can anybody help me determine if and when he died etc.?

Wolford was a favorite name for Republican families and former Union soldiers. The name came from the commander of the 1st Kentucky Cavalry of the U.S. Army during the Civil War. Some Overton County boys were in this famous outfit. There is a nice book about the unit. Gary D.
