    1. Re: [TNOVERTO] Felix Hickman Bilbrey
    2. Thank you all for your interest in Felix Hickman Bilbrey. I found a post dated Sept. 16, 1998 that was written by my cousin Bob Bilbrey that states Felix was born in Cookville, TN in 1841/42, served under General Nathan B. Forest during the Civil War, married Mary Ann Gulley in 1865, went to IL to study medicine, moved to Puxico, Stoddard Co., MO and died in 1909 in Puxico, MO. This was on the Bilbrey Family Genealogy Forum at Genealogy.com/GENFORUM. Bob Bilbrey died this past spring (2003) . I am told by his brother Jim that Bob was the family genealogist and his records are packed away so his wife can move at this time. My father, Wm. R. Kinney (who was the son of Jennie Lee Bilbrey d/o of Felix Hickman Bilbrey), told me that his grandfather, Dr. Felix Hickman Bilbrey, died of consumption. This could be the medical disability that Hickman Bilbrey had if they are one and the same person. At this point I am considering them the same person. If they are not I sure would like to know it. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Ruth Kinney Townsley

    3. Gerald, The military record of said Hickman Bilbrey shows him being disabled from further military service in the 25th Tennessee Infantry by reason of physical disability. He was given his discharge. I will guess this to be the same person as her Felix Hickman Bilbrey. What say ye? Gary D. 2. Ona Hall -Scalf
    3. Hi, My name is Ona Hall - Scalf from Whitley County, Kentucky. I have been trying to help out a friend of mine with some family research. I found a record in the LDS records pertaining to a marriage for JOSEPH JOWDY and DONA JOHNSON in OVERTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE. The date of marriage was 26 FEB 1899. This family eventually settled in Harlan and Laurel Counties in Kentucky with descendents also found in Whitley County, Kentucky. (The surname for Joseph has since changed from JOWDY to JODY.) I'm not familiar with OVERTON COUNTY courthouse records. Can this marriage record be located in the courthouse? I know that floods and fires have destroyed alot of records through the years. We've been trying to locate Joseph's parents, and thought that a marriage record may provide some additional information. We have not been able to locate a death record for him as of now. Thanks in advance, Ona Hall -Scalf Corbin, Ky My surnames are mainly Hall, Mullins, Isaacs, Johnson. All from eastern Ky and western Va areas.

    2. Hi Ron Hall, I did some searching through my files (rather piles <Smile>) and found that my Binom Bilbrey was Binom Franklin Bilbrey. He first lived in Overton co., TN, then moved to Putnam Co. and that is where he and his wife died and are supposed to be buried. My Felix Hickman Bilbrey was born in Overton Co., TN, grew to manhood in Putnam Co., TN, later moved to IL and then back to Nashville, TN where he got his medical degree after studying there in the winters of 1878 and 1879 and graduated in the spring of 1879 from (according to my father, his grandson) Vanderbuilt Medical School. 3. I have some more inofrmaion on a Felix Bilbrey. Not sure he is your man or not. Father: Lawrence BILBREY Mother: Alvina COPELAND kids names: Note Martin Vanburen Bilbrey was father of Josie Bilbrey who married John M. Conner. She was born in 1868 if my data is correct: You might look in the 1880 census to see if there were younger sisters. AS I expect the one that married G>W Smith was a sister. Your Elizabeth or Sally whatever her name was probably came off this line too. I'll bet we are in this line in this area. But there was anothr line that lived down around Hillham and the Jackson Coutny line and they could be the ones that moved into Jackson Couty. Or she could be off one of the Bilbrey families that lived in Jackson Co. in the 1880 census. Family 1 : Sarah Ann WEST +Alexander P. BILBREY George West BILBREY Stokely Rhion BILBREY +Francis Marion BILBREY +Emily E. BILBREY Eliza Jane BILBREY Selina BILBREY Celia D. 2. Hi Ron Hall, You know, I do not know. This is the first time I have realized that there were two different Cook----- towns in TN. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I have a copy of an old Civil War picture of my great grandfather, Felix Hickman Bilbrey, who was the son of Binom Bilbrey and Elizabeth last name unknown. Written on the picture is his name and the year 1861 and his age of 20 which would make him born in 1841. Somewhere else I have found a birthdate of 10 August 1841 for him. I cannot remember where I got it but hope I documented the source at the time. Anyway, also on the picture is written Overton Co., TN.
