I inquired about Overton Co death records at the TSLA..Here's my answer with some very informative info Subject Re: Death record Tennessee 1914-1925 Date:10/8/03 5:34:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time From:[email protected] Reply To: To:[email protected] CC: BCC: Sent on: Sent from the Internet (Details) Internet Address Card Attached I believe you are referring to the Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914-1925, located at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death.htm . As we explain in the introduction to the index, the Tennessee State Library and Archives has state-wide death records for the years 1908-1912 and 1914-1952. This index, prepared by the Cleveland Public Library, covers only thirty-seven counties in Tennessee for the years 1914-1925. Overton County is not included in this index. TSLA is currently working to replace this index. Currently, we have a state-wide index for 1914 (including Overton County) available at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/tndeath.htm . We hope to have the index for 1915 available by the end of the year. The Tennessee State Library and Archives will, for a fee, search a three year range state-wide for a death record in our collection. To begin the search, you will need to submit a written request with the following information: Name of individual Date of death (or a three year range to be searched) County of death (if known) Name of spouse (if known) Payment in advance by check, money order or credit card is required. Send your request along with a payment of $10 to: Tennessee State Library and Archives ATTN: RESEARCH 403 7th Avenue North Nashville, TN 37243-0312 If the record is found, we will make a photocopy and mail it to you. If the record is not found, you will be notified by mail, and the $10 fee goes to the cost of the search. Due to the number of requests received daily, we ask that you only submit one request at a time for a single record. Only one request will be handled at a time. Please do not send a second search request while you have a request pending. Please do not send several searches in separate envelopes. Multiple requests will be returned to the sender. There may be a waiting period of up to six weeks before you receive a reply. When you receive a copy of your first record in the mail, you may send in the request for the next record, and so on. Forms for ordering records from the Tennessee State Library and Archives can be found on our web site at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/forms.htm . RESIDENTS OF TENNESSEE (with a current Tennessee postal address) will pay a $5 fee to search for a death record. The $5 fee is not refundable. If the record is not found, you will be notified by mail, and the $5 fee goes to the cost of the search. Payment in advance by check, money order or credit is required. Send your request to the address given above. Due to the number of requests received daily, we ask that you only submit one request at a time for a single record. OK, thanks. I believe John Ray who died in 1910 to be the -father- of Rufus Ray, so I'm not sure this helps me...or maybe it does. Millie already married a man who was age 61 when she was 22, so it doesn't stretch my imagination at all to think she may have married John Ray age 49 when she was age 29. The fact that she named a son John supports this theory. I think I'll go with this! Thanks again, H. Does anyone know the name of the RAY who married Millie BURNETT (1875-aft.1920) in Overton County between 1900 and 1907, and who apparently died 1908-1910? They had two children, James Monroe RAY (abt.1908- ) and John A RAY (abt.1909- ). (Or if not, can somebody look this up in Overton County Marriages?) I suspected he might be a brother to Rufus A RAY who married Millie's stepsister Fannie abt. 1911, but this does not seem to be the case. Rufus had a brother Cullom (Cull) RAY, but he is said to have married "Fannie Unk."; his brother Joseph married Martha STAMPS. Thanks, H. Eugene Byars

Searching for possible descendants or someone with knowledge of James C. Daniel who lived in Overton County 1850 and 1860 census was, in Meade County, Kentucky 1870 but back in Clay County, Tennessee 1880. Some descendants migrated to Tipton County, Tennessee by 1900. Believe his mother or grandmother was Dicy Daniel listed in Overton County, Tennessee 1840. She may be buried there seems they were scattered somewhat in 7, 8 , etc., districts.
