    3. I do a little genealogy around the area. I have been at it for many years so I have the advantage of time on my side. Try to contact Paul Swallows Stover. I am sure she will have your line. She is in the Overton County Historical Society in Livingston. Gary D. 2. Hey Bill, Thanks for the advice. Also, I'm glad to hear that your daughter is doing well. We will continue praying for her health, as well as you all; I know that has to be tough on you all. Please let me know what her first name is so I can put her on the prayer list at church. In closing, I will let you know if I find anything. The Lord Bless You and Yours. Ken

    3. Hi Ken, I spent two whole days in that library last year in May. I would have to say I look in every book that directly and remotely pertained to the Swallows line. I was not very well organized then. I can't refer you to anything specific, but last year one of the staff there was a big help. She located the newspaper article that Trish Carden has on her web site about Andrew Swallow (Standing Stone Press article). Just make sure you have a good block of time. Thanks for your continued prayers. My daughter is stable at this time- just got out of the hospital. I would appreciate you letting us know if you find anything interesting. 3. Ken, The oldest Swallows I know if probably Willie D. Swallows. He should be about 80 or so. I knew his father and brother. Willie D. lives in Livingston, Tennessee the last I heard. Willie D.'s father was the county judge in Overton County back in the 1930's or 1940's as I recall. His son, Elmo, was the judge back in the 1970's. I grew up next door to Elmo. The Swallows generally were strong Democrats and strong party men. Elmo was the local chairman of the Kennedy electorate in 1960. My father was the chairman of the Nixon campaign. My father and Elmo went to college together and were known for their practical jokes on one another. Dad had me to put a Nixon campaign sticker on Elmo rear bumper. Elmo drove around town for a week before anyone told him about the joke. Yep, they were great friends. You need to look at the History of Overton County, Tennessee: Volume 1. There is a picture of Francis Hammock Swallows. The book has a few pages dedicated to the Swallows family. Gary D. 3. I can tell by the names the approximate location of the Swallows family. The Buckners and Specks lived in the Dry Hollow area. The Hammocks, Sheltons, and Oakleys were hill people who lived in the same general area. All of these families lived about halfway between Livingston and Monterey. I know where there is one old cemetery that was supposed to have been the Swallows Cemetery. My grandfather told me two old Swallows women were supposed to be buried there. The site is on a road between Raven Cliff and Highland. There graves only have blank fieldstones on them. Old timers told me that two Swallows women took an ox cart up on Raven Cliff and removed the 4 dead Confederates after the fighting was over. The dead were stretched out on the floor of the Martin Luther French cabin. I have seen the stains in the floor where the four bodies rested until the next of kin came to claim them. Two of the dead were Hammocks. Jacob Shelton was in that fight. He escaped. One of the Hammocks is buried at the James Hammock Cemetery on the road above Liberty Church and Cemetery. The other Hammock is buried at the Austin Cemetery. Jake Shelton died around 1931 and was buried in the Carter Bilbrey Cemetery. The Buckners I know in Overton County are buried at the Buckner Cemetery near Livingston's Grocery on Highway 84. More of the Buckners settled in Montery and are buried there. Gary D. 3. Take the road beside Ragland & Riley's Vet. Clinic on Highway 111. Go to the old Highway 42 and go straight across it to the Oak Hill Road. The cemetery will be over the top of the hill and on the left side of the road across from an old while house and behind a barn. You have to walk about 200 yards behind the barn. The cemetery is atop a hill in a cedar thicket as I recall. You cannot see the cemetery site from the road any more. The old house is called the Moody Wells house. The house is before you get to the Oak Hill Methodist Church. Gary D. 3. Thank you so much! I remembered it being right along Highway 111 and I would never have found it again without your help. I will try to visit the cemetery again this weekend. I have been to Ragland and Riley Veterinary Hospital many times and I knew it was somewhere in the general area. Stephen Wells married Nancy West and she is the daughter of Isaac West and Mary Swallows. Nancy West was the oldest child. If anyone has any information on this Wells family, I would be glad to hear from them. I will also share information with them too. Thanks again! 3. Hello, I am a descendant of Mary Swallows who married Isaac West. She is the daughter of Andrew Swallows and Catherine Kinder. Do you need their family information? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 9:51 AM Subject: Re: [TNOVERTO] Swallows > Hey Gary, > Thanks for writing. 1. [TNOVERTO] Re: TSLA info the real
    2. Sorry Lists , Don't know where my info went LOL..Trying again I believe you are referring to the Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914-1925, located at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death.htm . As we explain in the introduction to the index, the Tennessee State Library and Archives has state-wide death records for the years 1908-1912 and 1914-1952. This index, prepared by the Cleveland Public Library, covers only thirty-seven counties in Tennessee for the years 1914-1925. Overton County is not included in this index. TSLA is currently working to replace this index. Currently, we have a state-wide index for 1914 (including Overton County) available at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/tndeath.htm . We hope to have the index for 1915 available by the end of the year. The Tennessee State Library and Archives will, for a fee, search a three year range state-wide for a death record in our collection. To begin the search, you will need to submit a written request with the following information: Name of individual Date of death (or a three year range to be searched) County of death (if known) Name of spouse (if known) Payment in advance by check, money order or credit card is required. Send your request along with a payment of $10 to: Tennessee State Library and Archives ATTN: RESEARCH 403 7th Avenue North Nashville, TN 37243-0312 If the record is found, we will make a photocopy and mail it to you. If the record is not found, you will be notified by mail, and the $10 fee goes to the cost of the search. Due to the number of requests received daily, we ask that you only submit one request at a time for a single record. Only one request will be handled at a time. Please do not send a second search request while you have a request pending. Please do not send several searches in separate envelopes. Multiple requests will be returned to the sender. There may be a waiting period of up to six weeks before you receive a reply. When you receive a copy of your first record in the mail, you may send in the request for the next record, and so on. Forms for ordering records from the Tennessee State Library and Archives can be found on our web site at http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/forms.htm . RESIDENTS OF TENNESSEE (with a current Tennessee postal address) will pay a $5 fee to search for a death record. The $5 fee is not refundable. If the record is not found, you will be notified by mail, and the $5 fee goes to the cost of the search. Payment in advance by check, money order or credit is required. Send your request to the address given above. Due to the number of requests received daily, we ask that you only submit one request at a time for a single record. Only one request will be handled at a time. Please do not send a second search request while you have a request pending. Please do not send several searches in separate envelopes. WE STRONGLY DISCOURAGE SENDING CREDIT CARD INFORMATION VIA E-MAIL. The records at the Tennessee State Library and Archives are open to the public. You are welcome to come in Monday though Saturday 8AM-6PM CST to search the records yourself and make your own copies.
