Thank you very much for your help. I am trying to piece together the story of the early settlers in Overton county.
I have some Maxwell family in my line through marriage to the Bryants. They settled in Cookeville, Putnam Co., Tenn. No Thomas. I did look in my Overton County cemetery book and there is a T.M. Maxwell born 16 april 1862 and died 25 June 1882 but he died in Nashville and is buried in the Maxwell Cemetery. Under his name is a Thomas Maxwell but no dates. It only says husband of Lettie Carmarck buried in the Wilson cemetery. Hope that helps. If you want me look anything else up in the book just let me know. Hi all. Over the years, I have collected over 4,000 pages of documents pertaining to Branham, Brannum, Branam, Brandon, Brannon, etc. These documents consit of many types of things, ranging from pension files, marriage records, census records, court cases of all kinds, death records, county history items, deeds, wills, probates, etc., etc. I have scanned every single page of documentation that I have to a huge adobe acrobat file. I have also created "clickable" bookmarks for each item, which are alphabetized by name, making it easy for me to locate documents pertaining to any individual. Occasionally, I have had the oportunity to be of some help to other Branham (and various spellings) researchers. Most of my research covers those Branham's (and various spellings) in VA, NC, TN, IL, MO, and KY. Maybe I can be of some help to others. I have placed a form on the Branham Branches webpage which will allow folks to submit a little info on their Branham ancestor to me. Upon receiving those requests, I will then check my 4,000 pages of documents to see if I have anything that may link to your Branham ancestor. Please do not respond to this email. Instead, go to the webapge at www.digginbones.com/branham-branches . You will see a link on the left side of the page that says "Branham Ancestors". Click that link, and submit your request. Be sure to check out the rest of the webpage while you are there. Rex Bertram 132 S. Leota - Thank you. I will reply to your email address.......Doris
Doris, The Doss families lived primarily in the greater Alexandria area of Smith County, TN in the 1800's. Stewart and his son Jonathan Doss were part of the early formation of DeKalb County TN in the 1850's. A John Doss (some times listed as Doff) in Jefferson County TN about that time. He was suppose to be a Revolutionary War Vet. There is a river boat pilot Capt. John Doss buried at Bethel Cemetery on Church Street, Kingston, Roane County, TN. I am a descendant of Mariah Doss the daughter of Stewart/Stuart Doss who migrated to Smith County in the early 1800's from Virginia. Do you know of ANY Doss families who lived in Overton County in the early 1800's? Doris
Thanks for writing. I found him on the Pitts DNA site, name given as Levi, and also on the Mormon site, the IGI. His wife is listed as Elizabeth Matthews, born 1816 in Overton. Children: Permelia, John Samuel, Emory, Vica or Visia, Dicy, Amos F., Elijah D., Benjamin L., Joseph, William Bollen, and James Henry. I would like to find the name of his parents. Eva
Is he by any chance related to Elijah Pitts of Overton Co., TN?
Does anybody know anything of the parents of Levi Pitts, born 1814 Overton Co.? Eva
Hi Ruth, The information you provided does not mean necessarily that Benjamin Harrison was an attorney by profession, just that Josiah and Polly Brown gave him Power-of-Attorney over their affairs in Overton Co. connected to the estate of John Richardson.
