Hi List, With your permission I would like to discuss genealogy software. For a number of years now I have been using FTM "Family Tree Maker" and until lately I have reasonably satisfied with it, but recently I have been considering trying some of the other genealogy software on the market. I would most appreciative for some of the pros & cons on some of the other programs out there. * Joey S Crabtree Sterling Heights, MI joeycrabtree@comcast.net

I am new to posting messages so please bear with me. My family lived in Overton county for at least four generations and I am having difficulty finding records to fill in gaps and extend the line back. My great great grandfather was Benjamin McDonald born in Overton county about 1812 and died after the 1850 census. He was married to Lavina Stewart in 1845. She was the widow of his brother Michael. My father tells me that the story he remembers about his ancestors is that the McDonald boys left their property in Scotland or Ireland (probably in the early to mid 1700s) and came to the U.S. traveling through North Carolina. The brothers went different ways and our ancestor settled in the area that later became Overton County. If you know of any sources that can help me piece the family together, I would be grateful.

Hi Harry, James Maxwell (1799-1881) who married Elizabeth Hayden was the son of Bezaleel Maxwell (d.1810) and Agnes "Nancy" Long. Bezaleel was the son of Thomas Maxwell who was the son of Bezaleel Maxwell of Albemarle Co., Virginia. Nancy Long Maxwell remarried to David B. Harris and they and her children moved to Overton Co. James Maxwell lived in Overton co for many years but moved away in the 1850s to Collin Co., Texas. This family of Maxwells lived very near to, and were connected in some way with (so it seems), Thomas Maxwell and his brother John.
