The few Barefoot family members I know have roots in GA/SC and know that they have Indian blood (some of them look like they could step into a chief's headdress with no problem!). Some of these particular Barefoot family members had changed their name to Short. Whether Cherokee or not, I don't know. You might want to start with the Indian rolls. Just an idea...
