Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Obion County Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. James Kinsey officiating. Friends may call at White-Ranson Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Thursday until the hour of services. He was born June 29, 1919, in Troy, son of the late Ed and Mattie Jane (Barnes) Roney. He married the former Dorothy Merryman in 1948. She preceded him in death. He was employed at the former Brown Shoe Co. in Union City for 35 years and was union president for 15 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in Northern Africa and Italy, and was a member of Union City Second Baptist Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include a son, Charles Perry Roney of South Fulton; a sister, Mattie Reams of Dexter, Mo.; two brothers, Howard Roney and Jewell Roney, both of Union City; and two granddaughters, Glenda Butler of Union City and Julia Alicia Roney of Martin.
