Posted on: Obion Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Obion/1423 Surname: McINTOSH, RUNNELS, THOMPSON ------------------------- Need information on Jesse (J.E.) McINTOSH, b. 1820 in KY, appears on the 1850 Fulton County, KY census as age 29, has no wife, but three children: John B., b. TN, age 7, Mary, b. KY, age 4, and Laura, b. KY, age 1. I have found a marriage license for him to a Melissa Jane THOMPSON on 9/22/1841 in Obion County, TN. I would assume that she died after the birth of their last child. Jesse then turns up on the 1860 Obion County, TN census with a new wife "M," age 26, b. TN, son J.B., age 17, b. TN, daughter "J," age 5, b. TN, and another daughter "M.A.," age 3, b. TN. His two daughters Mary and Laura do not appear with this family. Yet, surprisingly enough he has three other children with the surname of RUNNELS living with him, Polly, age 14, and two boys "J" and "N" both 13. WHO ARE THESE KIDS? I checked for a THOMPSON family that might have had the two girls (reasoning that perhaps he moved back to Obion County in the first place so the maternal grandparents could help raise the young children). However, I only find one THOMPSON family, William, age 33, with a 15 year old Mary M. in his household. This is not definitive proof that she is Jesse's daugher Mary, however. Then on the 1870 Dyer County, TN census Jesse appears again as age 50, with another wife, Lucy, age 33, b. TN, children Josephine, age 16, b. TN, Maggie, age 14, b. TN, W--- (female), age 11, b. TN, May, age 3, b. TN, and Nancy, age 1, b. TN. I have found in the Dyer County, TN marriages: Laura McINTOSH to W. S. TURNER, 4/8/1867, Maggie A. McINTOSH to J. W. CRIBBS, 11/16/1875, and then Josephine McINTOSH to J. W. CRIBBS, 10/9/1878 (probably her brother-in-law). I noted on the marriage record for Jesse McINTOSH to Melissa Jane THOMPSON that John THOMPSON stood as Surety and that Arthur THOMPSON married them. Then on Jesse's marriage to Mary Malonia MALONEY/Mary NOLAN DAVIS (two marriages recorded on the same day to Jesse McIntosh - two different names) on 10/16/1850 John THOMPSON is again standing as Surety. I did find a Arther (Arthur) P. THOMPSON on the 1840 Obion County, TN census with a daughter between the ages of 15-20, this could be Melissa Jane, but no confirmation that it is and that he was her father. I did not find Arthur in any other Obion County census after this date although he married Jesse and Melissa in 1841 - perhaps he died.Sorry to be so long winded but Jesse is my brick wall on my McINTOSH side and I have just discovered the THOMPSON connection. Any help will certainly be appreciated. Thanks! :-) Lyn
