Have any of you worked the 1880 census enough to discern a pattern in why the enumerator listed some in a household as mulatto and some as black? I'm beginning to get the feeling of a hidden message here --- it's almost as if the enumerator knew the family lineage ... thought's from any of you on this? How about 1870, I don't recall, offhand, any listing of mulattos. I've limited my present search to Dist. 6 and Troy.
